Right?I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one who goes out in my pajamas to tend to my chooks. Who has time to get dressed when there's chickens wanting attention?!![]()
This was me from one minute to the next with three of them in the house...I love this stories!Teenagers. What can you say.
Fortunately no. I have never seen anything like that in any egg.Hey... have any of yall seen these inside your eggs.. it’s not in all of my eggs but some... when it is first cracked it is a fleashy meaty chunk.. you can squish it in your fingers... this one I took out this morning so it is now dried up.. I crumbled it and it feels chalky... do you think it’s a calcium deposit? It’s white on the inside now that it’s dry.. but when fresh it’s just that tannish color... I'm not sure if its the same thing but I have seen several hens in my flock do what looks like a mount/not a mount. Morrigu does it fairly regularly to the junior Campines. I've seen Mhari do it to the Wyandottes. It doesn't seem to be about sex with my lot but about dominance & who's who in the rankings. Aoife will be rather pushy & Morrigu will run her down & do the mount thing. She seems to prefer to grab onto the neck feathers but Aoife's quite a bit bigger than she is. Mhari did it to Wrold last night over a feeding dispute. All Wrold did was flare her hackles when Mhari was done.Speaking of mating I saw some interesting behaviour yesterday.
We all know that Tsuki is a bully. Edwina is at the bottom of the pecking order and is often chased off by Tsuki. Yesterday Tsuki mounted Edwina (as a rooster does) and held onto her comb with her beak. Then her vent puffed up and she um... well it looked like she was trying to mate.
Does this happen very often among hens?
Tsuki's "spurs" are starting to grow again too.
Edit to add that Edwina did the shake thing too when Tsuki dismounted.
I did that. Other suggestions? The secret is to get a driving instructor to teach them. There was no way I was going to teach them to drive. Life is too short, cars are too expensive and I don't want to be screaming at people.
