Yes I gave her a nice warm bath last night, she was not a fan of the blow drier! I am about to try the bath again. And keep her in a warm dark cage in hopes she will lay an egg for me.
That oil trick helped Agatha and Tina no end
I think someone here suggested it. It helped after the soak. But it took a few days

I will be bringing her to the Vet today, she is lingering and I don’t have the ability to do any true surgical measures.

The vet I use has her own flock and grew up a farm girl, she deals with poultry and exotic birds. Cost is a factor but as Petunia is my responsibility I need to ensure she is cared for 😟

Hopefully a bit of oxytocin can get her moving along with the egg.

EDIT: appointment for 11am.
:hugs

Baby update.

Sherlock has been checking on them EVERY time he comes inside. He also checks multiple times while inside. We've been able to put some of the babies on the floor to run around (carefully) with him near by WITHOUT his training collar on. My FIL dropped by while I was at work on Friday. (He's a mite envious as I have eggs and he doesn't have many, yet). My son was out with Sherlock. Sherlock sat and waited while the vehicle came into the yard (on command), went up to the front of the bush the chickens like to shelter under then turned and came back to my son.

Sadly, we lost Daisy and Liz. Neither put on weight like the others. Hand feeding had zero interest. Hand watering brought a little, but not enough. Rose, Hyacinth, and Violet have all put on weight and get into the middle of thie Biggers. Of those, Miss Marple is still the smallest. Blurr and Focus are finally sprouting feathers and Kate and Hetty are trying to fly to the rim of the tote. Move into the coop day needs to be SOON. I was going to try yesterday, but between the snow and the health issues, needed to keep a closer eye on them.

Yesterday morning's photo shoot with the adults gave me a surprising mug.View attachment 3762984Tuff says good morning!
So sorry about losing the two chicks, so sad to lose little ones just trying to survive their first days. 😢 :hugs

But among the living, Tuff looks magnificent there. That’s POW and wall- worthy! Great pose & expression. The lighting showing off his colors! :thumbsup

Petunia is still unwell - I can feel a mass that feels like an egg in her abdomen, but cannot feel anything if I do an internal exam.

I gave her and Red an egg to eat, but she didn’t want to eat anything else.

I gave her another 1/4 calcium tablet, 1/2 an aspirin and some Tylenol for pain. Last I left her she was in a nest box for the night.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated 😟
You may already have decided on euthanizing her, but an X-ray may help in the decision too, if you can afford it, and give you peace. It does sound like a blockage. If it’s a stuck egg there is the very risky procedure of breaking the egg inside her. Other than that, it’s not likely to be something she can survive without $$ surgery, which itself is pretty risky. I’m sorry :hugs :hugs

Great shots, the friendly interest really shows through! Well Shep is an enigma….
Shep was trying to peck the pop socket on my phone haha. She's a big ol sweetheart.

Tuff is grandson of Cheetah (gold penciled hamburg) and Nellie (brown leghorn) on his father's side. He's the son of either Pippa or Maizie (both buff orp x EE). I had no idea on the father until he started popping the black breast feathers. Horus (the father) was the OINLY roo who could have produced that and the ladies were the only ones with beards that could have combined for those colors. As both girls lay green eggs, I'm hoping he carries at least the blue. With his father being 100% white egg, I have ZERO idea what his offspring will produce.

Thirsty Thursday:View attachment 3765483
Dottie and Whiskey hitting the now vitamin enriched water!

Oh Albert. She is ravenously eating anything I bring out from the house, which today was the morning mash, scrambled egg, kale, bread, shredded carrot, and blueberries, split into two meals (hah, the other girls are so jealous). But between those meals she is not eating. It’s as though her sense of taste changed and pellets are now off the menu.

I’m happy to feed her whole foods for however long she needs, but since I’m just able to get up there twice a day she’s going to keep getting skinnier.

Who has experience force feeding soft pellet mash with a syringe? Is this a worthwhile avenue to take, to ensure she’s getting some complete nutrition?
I have tube fed before and so have several others. I would only do it as a really last resort. Are you sure she isn’t eating when you are not there? Is there a way to give her lots of choice so she can take what she feels like?
