My three baby Majesty Marans arrived and they also had Lavender Orps!

So now Curly has a M. Marans and a Lav Orp. And Whiskers has 2 M. Marans under her.

So far all seems good.

Meanwhile my Barred Rock chick is going be a good mama - the Bantam baby snuggles up by her and she dropped her wing over her - gosh soooo cute!

Those two bantams are so tiny next to the big chicks!

With the bantams snuggled inbetween the older girls, they're plenty warm, even on top of the heat panel. Your big chicks are feathered enough to not NEED it, but young enough to still WANT it. The bantams are fully accepted as part of the little group. Good job!

Once a broody has babies, THEY are her focus. THEY need food, she will get them to food and show them how to eat it. THEY need water, she will get them to it and show them how to access (like a nipple waterer). THEY need protection, she will turn into MAMA BEAR.
Yes. It is the 21 days leading up to that. I worry for her health. Maybe next time she will be better - but this time she only ever left the nest if hauled out by me or encouraged out by Piglet when they were broody together.
Right now she is determined to hatch a length of 2x4 I provided in jail, but at least I saw her eat.

Furious, sad, upset :hit

Whiskers has killed here two chicks I put under her. I was only up at the house an hr and ran back to the barn to check them. She had killed them. She has lost her chance to ever have chicks ever again and this weekend she will go to broody breaking jail.

I really thought she would take to them, she was at day 19.

Now I can only hope that Curly keeps her babies. She did the shimmy and tucked them up under her so I can hope she is a good mama.

I have only had good luck with my broodies so to have this happen is a total shock. I guess I won’t be fostering babies on hens anymore, too much risk of harm to the babies - and not hatching eggs either, too much risk of Roos.

:hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs You know certain hens will take the babies. (Henny Penny, Penelope). You also know how to raise babies with the flock (including mixing bantams in). Revisit the idea if/when the time comes down the road a ways. Right now keep an eye on Curly and the rest of your babies.

When she accepts them....and when they're as determined as she is, I think she will.

He already is an amazing roo. Just too small yet for the larger ladies to listen to his instructions
I take that back. He’s starting to man up with the big girls now too!
I have started full integration today. I’m hopeful for the best outcome. :fl

Hello all,
Great day!
First time for the chicks outside.
And turns out, I now have 4 new chicks! My friend gave them to me as he couldn't take care of them. They are all in their new home now, the coop. All they need now is bedding.
And the adults in a group photo.

Stick her in prison and give everyone treats right in front of her for months . The nasty girl. Don't let her near any small chick's again.

I'm so sorry Kelly 😞
