What are You Doing Glynda!

Lady Featherington got off the nest in the mid morning all on her own. I was very pleased by this.

She was off the nest for 2 hours! It is 97°F (36°C) on its way to 100°F so I did not think much of her time off the nest. Take a break lady.

I got the alert from the cameras that she was headed back in so I looked into a camera and checked on things.

This is what I saw.

What is wrong with this picture!

How did Glynda get onto Lady Featherington's nest?! Was she trading up based on the number of eggs?!

I decided relocation was necessary.

All settled now. Broodies be crazy!

The hand reaching in is very funny.

I'm facing the prospect with Mera. She's got a week, then I break her.
Soooooo…..

I went to get feed and they still had chicks, I himed and hawed and finally decided to get 2 for each broody.

I shoved 2 under Dorothy and all looked ok, then shoved 2 under whiskers she sat there for about 5 minutes then I guess when they started to move around she attacked them.

I decided since Dorothy was doing ok o would shove those under her also. Should have left her - the guess I got her riled up and she started pecking everything she could get her beak on, me that is because I was protecting chicks.

So now I am freaked out and stuck with four chicks to raise - oh they aren’t any problem really, but still have two rootin tootin broody bats.

I don’t know, maybe I should wait till dark and put them under them…?

Thoughts anyone?

Try again or just give up?

Meanwhile I put the 4 in with the two silkie chicks, they are under the brooder plate snoozing - they have had a tough day!

Please, do not feel horrible. None of this is yours or Teddy's fault, it is not I promise. Chicks are fragile, I have learned over the years not to expect them all to make it to adulthood. Difficult hatches or hidden issues we cannot see internally can claim them very young. And some, well, some of them pass for no rhyme or reason that first week. I want to thank you. It had been over a year since I last had chicks. I had broody's but I kept breaking them. Things had gotten so difficult and depressing since this past September that I forgot even some of the most simple joys with the chickens. It is still tough, we finally got grandma's living room and kitchen 99% done. Now we have 3 bedrooms to do. All 3 just as bad as the rest of the house. I do not care how happy you are, a day down there you come home feeling depressed and sad. It has been dark when we get home so my chickens are already on the roost, no snuggle time with them so what is left to do to improve your mood? Not much really as I have been so tired it is eat and pass out dreading the next day. Not anymore. I have those happy contented little peeps greeting me as soon as I walk in my room. Just the sound of them instantly relaxes me and brings a smile. The camera does not capture it where they are afraid, but they play with me. I can put my hand in the brooder and tap my fingers and it is a game to them. They come charging in to bite my fingertips and hop all over my hand. Adele demands to be held. You saw the picture of her asleep in my hand last night. I was held hostage by that chick for 10 minutes. She was sleeping and I did not move to put her back until she woke up. Never disturb a sleeping baby, human or chicken. It was a hard day down grandma's yesterday, mentally and physically due to the horrendous heat. The chickadoo's washed it all away in mere minutes and I went to bed happy and slept like a rock. As soon as I woke up they were still happily peeping. I've already had them all out to cuddle and Adele once again made it up to my shoulder for some snuggle time. I was sad for a minute she was not a frizzle but then I got to thinking it is for the best. We can get brutal winters with frigid temps. I already have to take extra precautions with the silkies to keep them warm, Adele will have a advantage over them and be better off with normal feathers. I am sad I lost little fluff and little curly, but, they have joined Momma hen, jack and Gracie with my grandma. Grandma loved my chickens, I won her over with the silkies and she also loved my blue chickens. Little fluff is in the best of care now and I know she is very happy with chicks to spoil.
You're such positive person just an amazingly lovely lady ❤️ 💕 They are lucky little fluff butt's having you

All that hard slogging away will end in time and then you will have loads more space in your life to enjoy them.

Not that I am the best to advise but I wouldn't risk them being with the grumpy ladies just yet. You don't need anymore heart breaks and those little ones need to be safe

That reminded me I am hungry.
I had a boiled egg for breakfast. It was one of Tassels’ eggs. The tiny one.
Maybe that is why I am so hungry!
A full size Tassels egg and a teaspoon are provided for scale.

I know right?

But what if all they need is a dark night to adjust, wake up and taadaa babies?! They would be such good mamas as they are high ranking hens.

What if ya am taking that away from them?

But I truly cannot risk the babies and the stress to me worrying. So no I think I shall not try again.

I have given it some thought and I want to be I control of them. Gosh these birds are going to be the death of me!
