Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble with that little one

Thanks, I went ahead and dosed all the chicks; I didn’t give the silkies any as they seem ok and very active. They have also been outside so hopefully they have been building up an immunity to coccidia, but if they look off I will give them some also.

Meanwhile I will keep my fingers crossed.

I also weighed them:

1st chick Americana lighter chick (sick one) 1.9oz
2nd chick Americana darker chick 2.5oz
3rd chick darker grey Gem 3oz she’s a chonker
4th chick light grey Gem 1.9oz another tiny girl

I gave each 0.05ml - let me tell you it’s not easy to give them a liquid med at that age. I pretty much put a drop on the side of their beak and let them gobble it in. Thankfully 0.05ml is about 2 drops.

Meanwhile it’s pelting down rain again - ya what a shocker….. it’s only 18°C but it’s disgustingly clammy, so damp, makes it feel warmer than it is.

It’s the tropics here, I expect to see palm trees at any time sprouting up!

More stress and worry

Tonight one of the Americana chicks had a bloody poop. They are receiving medicated chick starter (amprol) and of course it’s a long weekend so no Veterinarian help likely. I know my horse vet will get meds for me but what meds to get?

Does anyone have any ideas? Coccidiosis? Something else? As far as I know it’s the only chick showing any issues.

To say I was completely freaked out would be an understatement. I had them outside for the first time and they were roaming and doing normal chickie things. Then the one deposited this at my feet

Any chance it ate a cherry? It can't be coccidia with the medicated feed.

Yes I was / am totally freaked out. I might call my vet to see if he has any sulfadimethoxine I can mix in their water.

Is this crazy wet weather to blame for it if it’s coccidiosis? I have not had this before. Also this chick arrived with pasty butt - could this be a symptom?

This is not from pasty butt. Pasty butt is caused by heat lamps.
