The only advice I can give is to maybe drape it with a towel to make it darker - to calm her down. That may not help if she is determined to 'break out' of jail, but it might help some. Since the cage isn't comfy nor have nesting material, I don't think it will induce her to 'nest', but one never knows with a determined hen!An update and request for advice

But she is not a calm prisoner. I am a bit worried she will hurt herself in there. She is flinging herself around trying to break out.
I have a much smaller crate I could put her in so she had less room to move - but that may be too much like a nest.
Any advice? I am hoping she just calms down and stands patiently on her 2x4.

I know aren’t they so cute?! I am almost tempted to get some polish chicks next year but nope I won’t. Too risky getting Roos.
Still no takers for Bert![]()

Oh no. So sorry.Goodbye my friend.
Yesterday I found out Aurora had a really bad prolapse. I tried to shove it back in but she had pooped in her body cavity. There is about an inch of guts outside her cloaca. She does not seem to be lethargic but since she pooped inside I am sure it will get infected. Also it may happen again. I got her inside the barn because the wasps were tormenting her. Today she will be put down because I don't have the heart to let her go on suffering, because, even though I put honey on her vent to keep it from drying out, she went and scratched around in the wood shavings and got wood shavings all over her guts.
