Big mistake. I listened to CeeCee and let her in the house. Now she’s sound asleep on top of me! :barnie View attachment 3913931
:idunnoAnd why was that a mistake???:idunno

she looks utterly comfy there - she must have needed a warm napping spot badly!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

P.S. Someone else seems to be enjoying the snuggle muffin, too....just sayin';)

@Ponypoor I hate when people get cute baby animals just to get rid of them when they grow up. And to plan on it from the start! I...shall not say any further on this matter, it won't be very nice.

Anyways, here's some chickens.

Finished this wonderful snail today, it was really difficult. I hope it sells at the market tomorrow.
The kiddos are so darling! I don't think I will ever get 'pom pom' chickens for my self, but darn, they are so cute! I can live vicariously through you and @BY Bob on that front.

The snail is gorgeous! What a wonderful job - hope 'he' fetches top dollar!

I know aren’t they so cute?! I am almost tempted to get some polish chicks next year but nope I won’t. Too risky getting Roos.

Still no takers for Bert 😢😢

I could use some prayers sent Rosie's way please.

I got a call from the school this afternoon that a fight broke out and she was caught in the cross-hairs and needed to be picked up.

I get to the school and there is a ambulance there along with the sheriffs department. They are loading Rosie onto the ambulance. Principal, the sheriff and her teacher were trying to talk to me all at once and Rosie is in a meltdown. The teacher and myself rode with her to the hospital and the principal told me to come Monday and they would have all the information for me then. I got from the teacher that there was a pep-rally going on when a girl started hitting a boy who was sitting beside Rosie in the head with a Stanly cup. He tried to get away and she threw it and it bounced off his head and hit her in the mouth. She has 2 broken teeth, a busted lip and a concussion. I found out from a friend who came to the ER right after school that she did pass out for about 2 seconds but a group of people caught her before she hit the ground. Her mouth is hurting and she is super sensitive to heat and cold but the nerve is not exposed. She is on amoxicillin and pain meds until Monday when I can get her into the dentist for them to be capped. Rosie is also on a 3 minute loop. Every 3 minutes she starts asking the same questions over and over and over and does not remember exactly what happened. I did let the sheriff and principal know before I left I do want charges pressed.
Oh, dear!

How is she today? Did she need stitches? Send her our love and give her an extra hug from all of us! (And know we are sending YOU hugs, too!)🤗

I may not have been clear earlier. Rosie is home on antibiotics and pain meds until we can get to a dentist Monday morning. She is still disoriented and confused and does not remember anything from this morning or the fight. Adrenaline is wearing off and pain is setting in big time for her. I have learned from her friends who came to the hospital that she did pass out for a few seconds but her friends caught her before she hit the ground. I know the girl who started it is a 16 year old who has bi-polar. The boy who was the target was taken to the ER by his parents and is also home with a concussion. I am not someone who gets mad easily. I am not a sue happy person either. This is my child and I am livid. Someone is going to pay for the ambulance ride, ER visit and all dental expenses to fix her teeth and fix them properly. I have a picture of her mouth. If I can figure out to put it in a spoiler I will post it.
So both suffered injuries. That's really bad. I hope the aggressor get disciplined, at the very least.

Sending well wishes to you all

One of my roost is in front of a small window. I block it a few days during the year when there is a really cold wind with a piece of cardboard. How cold, windy or damp is your climate ?

About the roosts, I would just temper RC's comment that if you prefer not to have to make modifications in the future, think that once your hens are older they won't be as agile jumping both up and down. In fact, some won't be able to jump at all.
A ladder or ramp to the roost on one end (or the middle) would fix/help with that (RE: @ManueB 's comment - which is definitely something to consider!).

That said, I would still do at least 2 roosts - of different heights - gives them choices. A roost near a window so they can look out seems to be a winner with @RoyalChick 's chickens - as long as the spot isn't drafty in the winter.

I do love your nest boxes! CLever idea on the doors.
