Ok a lighter note... and yes they are destined for freezer camp in a few weeks time so don’t get too attatched to the cuteness... they are hunting me!

I am feeding them twice daily now, free ranging them from 9am until 4 or 5 most days (if I am not in the area I just move the tractor twice daily, but I’m here most of the time)
That is so cute. I love when they follow you around. Thanks for posting!

Inspired by Bob's chicken-eye-view videos I set the coop cam up at chicken height in one of the Palace runs.
Minnie immediately came to investigate this new thing

And later, after a bath she came back in and .. .. well all I can say is at least she stayed on her feet!
What a Cutie 🥰 i just love the post bath cloud of dust. She is much more dignified than someone else we know. 😉

And hard molts seem to be all the rage here too. I have 25 chickens that are having really hard molts and three that have been just awful. Of course all my Roosters except Roostie are included in that. I try not to handle them when they are like this but I had to bring this poor girl into the big coop for some eggs. Hopefully DH returns with the canned salmon tonight. It’s kind of obvious why I’m out.

I also trimmed up her lower beak a little. Don’t jump all over me, I was extremely careful not to cut or file that cuticle. It sticks out about 1/2” and was cracked. She’s one of my 3 year old rescues
Poor baby that is a rough molt. How cold is it getting there at night right now? That is what I always worry about with mine. Luckily Hattie started earlier this year.

I assume you file the beak. Is that right?

Such a proud looking rooster. How sad that you couldn't have him in town.
All of the neighbors but one loved to hear him crow. Sadly it only took one for him to have to go. People on the street still stop me and say they miss his crowing. I know I don't miss it at 3:00 am. Mrs BY Bob loved him though.

He had some attitude issues. Much like my Chickie Hawk does (I think it’s the cheek puffs that do it)... having a Rooster really seems to change the flock dynamics and the relationship with the chicken tender. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out.
Yes. I am much happier with my relationship with the flock without him.

He and I did not ever reach a consensus. He did not like me sitting outside, period. At the end I could not even sit in a chair and have the hens come around me. Patsy hated him. She fought with him. It just never all fell into place.

Not the least bit bossy. Deana is so laid back that she is almost catatonic.

She is happy to have anyone roost next to her and is often pottering around the garden on her own. The only time she throws her weight around is if someone else has a tasty morsel that she wants.

But no-one messes with her. Not even Tsuki!

Deana, Queen of the breakfast bar.
That is great to hear. I think RIRs are beautiful chickens. I just love their deep coloring. Looking good Deana! 🥰
