Does anyone else’s chickens enjoy stepping in their water to drink? It isn’t even hot out

Happy equinox! We have had such perfect weather this week, chilly mornings and 75-80°f days. Ruca has been spending hours outside, something we have never done before. Good for her old bones for sure.

For "pony" sunday I have something wacky. Pics aren't great, but if you look close you will see a mouse in a rose bush! Guessing it ran from either the cats or chickens. Its about 5-6 feet up.View attachment 3949408View attachment 3949409View attachment 3949410
Does Ruka do any foraging when she is outside? Or is she ‘lounge lizard’ sunning herself 😊

I have see mice climb the walls here in the barn. Agile little so-and-so’s.

Your scenery pics are wonderful. Takes me back to my foggy farm day scenes!

We never had dogs or cats for the kids when we parents BOTH worked but we did keep caged in-house birds then ~ cockatiels/English budgies/parakeets/parrot/canaries. Once DD was 16 & working she bought her 1st dog a Rottie & took care of his expenses herself which included food, license, vet bills, vaccinations, & fence repairs. She bought her 1st house at 19 & also kept 2 cats that lived to 18 yrs. Today in her 50's she rescues pit-mixes whenever she loses a dog (bigger dogs have shorter lifespans avg 10-12 yrs).

Your kitten is so cute. Nice that they have better lifespans than most dogs.

Your Granma made good use of her crafting skills ~ no TV's or internet to distract her in the olden golden days. In the 1950's when I was a kid my Pop bought a TV w/a tiny fuzzy 8-inch black & white screen w/ only 3 channels, poor reception, & went off air after sunset Teehee! It wasn't a piece of technology that glued us to it so we had plenty of free time to play, do chores which is fun on a farm, read, bicycle to the neighbors down the road to visit w/their kids, etc. I feel sorry for city kids that can't/don't have that Nature's life.
We had a TV growing up, 2 channels. But we only ever watched it after supper.

Growing up at the lake we swam, biked, skated, and generally ran free.

Definitely different in the city.

We always had a dog, and a cat, and many other pets. At 16 I got my first horse. Well a pony- Penny.
