I zoomed in, I think I am seeing feathered legs correct? My opinion, that is a splash Marans. Very lovely variety. The breeder I got my original Marans from started producing splash Marans the year after I got mine. If I get more Marans eggs I am going back to him. As far as temperaments goes I love my birds that I got from him and have hatched from them. I fully believe temperament is not only how they are raised but genetic as well. I think instead of going with eggs from a strictly black pen I will opt for a mix of eggs and try for blues and splashes. His blacks lay the darkest color eggs, then the blue and followed by the splash. I miss my Blueberry. She may have only been half Marans, but she looked the part of a blue copper hen. Blueberry was also one of dad's 2 hens. He misses his "Gun metal grey" girl as he calls her.Name the Breed
Can anyone identify the breed of this chicken? It is large similar in size to an Orpington.

JD has added these 2 to his flock and does not know what breed the white one is. They think it is French somehow.
Cats are just so funny!Forgot to post yesterday. Castor joined me in waiting for the ladies to head into the coop the other night...and was feeling frisky.View attachment 3954104View attachment 3954105View attachment 3954106View attachment 3954107
OOH, this just confirmed my suspicion!!! Versace is the special boy that is coming to live with her!!! I cannot begin to say how happy this makes me. We get to continue to follow him. I am thrilled he has found a home. I was so tempted, I thought of 1000 different ways to make it work and in the end it would make for a difficult choice down the road with any of my boys. I have George, I hope to have a silkie roo and there is Randy. I have decided I think I am going to let Betty have Randy....in the spring probably after George at least has grown up some. I also have I think decided next spring to get a dozen Marans eggs and hatch them out in hopes of 1 boy to keep. Bubba and Branch are gone, so the magic number of 2 is out the window. I hope I can pull off 3 if George and hopefully "Keith" if he is here are the older dominate roo's and bring up a new big guy.She is darling. I'm sure Versace will love her.
This morning, noticed Henny Penny in with curly. Did she lay an egg?I am getting to my wits end with Tassels. She has been in broody jail best part of two weeks now. Nothing deters her. At least in jail she eats. Chicken feed frittata.

Only difference there is parties are at night during sleep time, which I would not enjoy.Such a pretty coop! Do your neighbors mind your coop against the adjoining fence? Hen egg songs can be very loud. Our coop isn't against a neighboring fence but our hens have loud songs that carry far & it worries me. We have Silkes but their egg songs are just as loud as standard hens. So far no one has complained & likewise when they have loud noisy parties we don't complain either.
Shhhhh don’t tell anyone, I am doing a drive by when he is in Detroit and drop off a few hens to himHmmmmm...?what are you up to??
I smell a 'surprise' coming.....
