I used to get "called out" for being devil's advocate online, so I just stopped interacting with anything controversial. It sucks because I like to talk to people and see where they get certain opinions, but alas many just see it as picking a fight. Doesn't help that I trust people to have good intentions. So I can understand where you're coming from. 😌

The fall colors are coming in now, my house is surrounded by beauty.

Shep is looking more rumply, guess she's molting too.

Poor Liara is rough. But here you can see how much alike she and Cream look!

And one more autumn picture. I want to get a tri-color maple for my front yard. Or a big birch tree!
What gorgeous colors! i love rural scenes! i miss open country. I do get to see a lot of dumb ugly palm trees around here though! Tall skinny useless palms all over the suburb give no shade, grow skinny trunks 60 feet up & the falling sharp edge leaf will cut a person to ribbons if it drops on you! In Hollywood residents have a complaint to rid the city streets of the danderous old tall palms.

Oh that made me laugh. She looked very comfy up there.
I still remember those nails digging into my neck! Ouch!

That was Whiskers when she was still a pullet. Her first winter which was an extremely cold snowy one.

But getting back to dominance, many times people read this sort of behaviour as being ‘friendly’, I read it more as being ‘familiar’.

Being familiar can have the effect of aggression (a rooster attacking you), or a hen pecking, or biting (Georgia has been biting me lately when I go to handle her).

Being familiar can also be seen as trust, as seen by birds hopping up an roosting on you legs/lap.

Also it can be just plain old ‘hey I want your attention’, or ‘what are you doing’. I think Whiskers was just wondering hey what are you doing, I think I will hop on you.

I have noticed it is the younger birds that hop on me, the older ones (2 or more years) rarely do; even though Buttercup was all over me as a youngster these days she doesn’t bother hopping up on me.

Those are just my observations.

All I know is he is now gone. I never saw the animal control vehicle show up but the last week and a half have been crazy. Between Rosie, Dirt, and then whatever is up with me I forgot about him. I only know he is gone because I overheard Maddy telling Rosie he was gone and I did not question it. The shelter could have sent someone out and I just missed it.
I'm sorry I asked.

Are you feeling better now? What was your problem?
I seem to be missing huge chunks of information in here lately. Please forgive me, I'm not myself right now

Oh no! I love palm trees!

I would love to have palm trees, or maybe it’s what they represent - no snow!

Let the whining begin!

Yep, each moult is a surprise to me. Some of our Silkies would get different shades of color each year ~ sometimes darker, sometimes lighter? Always wondered if there's any vitamin or supplement to prevent premature greying of animal fur/feathers?!
Nope 😊 otherwise I would have a chestnut horse not a grey one 👍

But nutrition would help with growing new feathers as we all know 😊♥️

I'm gonna vent here a little, but under a spoiler since it doesn't have anything to do with chickens. Feel free to skip over, I just need to let it out.

Sometimes being autistic is really, really hard.

I seem to be misunderstood constantly.
I have that same problem. I speak out or ask questions and people just jump down my throat
When I get interested in a topic and want to explore deeper, look at it from as many angles as possible, and ask a lot of "but what if"s, because I'm curious and love learning, people tend to think I'm being a know-it-all, or preoccupied with "being right", when that's not the case.
Same here. I had this woman shouting at me for months, it got so bad when she asked about anything I just stopped telling her what I believed to be her answer
Especially online, because tone and intent is hard to read over text. Misunderstandings happen a lot online for that reason. But I wish people wouldn't be so quick to jump to the defensive and even sometimes offensive.
It's their problem not yours just keep that in mind
When it comes to scientific topics, you're supposed to ask a lot of questions, aren't you? You're supposed to play devil's advocate, both with yourself and others, aren't you? I mean... That's literally how science works. We don't learn anything new if we don't challenge what we think we already know, and listen to opposing viewpoints.

This community has been overall nice and welcoming. But there seem to be some users (I've noticed that a lot of times they're people who have been here for years) who talk down to others. It just happened to me yesterday and it's been making me feel off, so. Yeah, I had to vent. I don't usually let this stuff get to me but occasionally it really busts through my armor.

Maybe I need PFM just so I can put "Autistic, please be patient" as my bio or whatever it is 😅 You know, the thingy under the username.
SOOO anyways. Chickie tax for that ❤️

Talk about Thirsty Thursday! I just filled that thing a few hours ago!

Ah, it's alright, really. I'm still feeling bummed but I can't let it get to me too much. It was just an online interaction with a stranger, not like it was a fight with someone I have to see every day 😆 Thank you, though!

I'm so proud of that shelter and can't wait to finish it! I can't remember if I ever posted about the plans for all of the shelters we're going to make.

We want to do like a little medieval village. So that shelter that I've posted pics of, that will be (if I can figure out how to do it) a stone house with a thatch roof. I'm thinking we'll call it "Gytha's Inn and Tavern" or something like that. Another one will be a little witchy wooden shack down by the woods, Magrat's cottage. No solid plans for the others yet. I love the planning stage! I can let my imagination run wild!
Build your structure, then use those ‘fake stone’ facade you get at a hardware store for your stone work.

For thatch your can always put on a shingle roof (as the layer to prevent rain entry) and cover it with dried cat-tail stalks or reeds as the thatch.

I look forward to your endeavours!
