Dark times are upon me my friends. Shameful times.

This morning for the first time in years I had to run to the store to buy eggs!!!

Rosie has a friend over this weekend and they are baking a cake today. I did not know about this cake plan and sold my last dozen yesterday. I did not have a egg left in the house after making cornbread for dinner last night. My girls are a bunch of free loading molting slackers right now. I got 3 yesterday. Today if the pattern holds I will get 1 if I am lucky. Starting next week I am hoarding every single egg I collect for Thanksgiving baking.

Rudy needed to go back outside. But then Dakota was waiting right there on the porch for me.
“What’s up with this daddy? I thought that I was your favorite!”

What a horrendous thing to hear. Buying store bought eggs? Selling the last of your stock for unappreciative profit. Oh, what a shame 🤦‍♂️😢 but what else could you do? 🤷‍♂️

That is little Georgie girl from behind right? Looks just like Marty but I do not think Marty has gold flecks in her hackle feathers.

I did not set out to call my boy George. He was supposed to be Julio since I could not call him Adele any longer. Mom named him George. I like George for a name though. With my original group of Marans Drummie had a brother who I was calling George. For a bit Drumstick was not going to be my keeper boy.

Now in the last week mom is no longer calling him George. She and some of my neighbors got to talking. George is the talk of the neighborhood. Everyone loves him. Asks what he is, they love his antics he is getting into and what on earth is going on with his head feathers. As a collective group they have decided he is a late 70s, early 80s Rock chicken and should be called "Rod Stewart" :th.

No people, I am not changing his name again. The poor boy in his 4 short months of life has already been through 4 names. George he will stay unless you all want me outside yelling the name my brother gave him at hatch.

My brother used his sarcastic and sometimes dark humor to name him. George hatched early, 18 days. The only white chick in a group of black chicks. He claimed him, said he was the superior chicken and declared him a name I have never called him on here. It is a German name, one responsible for World War 2. I can not stand outside and call him that. So, I tweaked it and he became Adele in hopes of a pullet. When he became clear he was a boy my brother and Rosie were thrilled and insisted on the original name but nope, you 2 are getting Julio. I would have kept Julio for him, it sort of fit him and then Mom named him George. Little Georgie boy has all sorts of nicknames that just fit.

I miss the days when everyone did not look twice at a chick and offer a name suggestion. Normally I just have to fight Rosie over a name and most times I could win.

I was in Walmart last week and I was at the egg endcap cooler. A lady was picking out a carton of eggs and I had to be me… I told her how poorly those chickens (who laid them eggs) were being treated, in battery cages with no chance to be treated fairly. I had her in tears almost. But I left the area and she grabbed them and hid the carton under her toilet paper. I really do like messing with people in Walmart.

I gave a friend a carton without realizing those were my last eggs.
Piglet and Pooh are still laying even though the coop is full of their feathers, so I may have a couple for breakfast tomorrow.
I also keep a couple of containers of frozen beaten eggs in case of emergency!

In truth it was more bartering then selling. One of my neighbors showed up out of the blue with 7 empty egg cartons they had saved and 2 loaves of cinnamon raisin bread for the chickens. The slackers had one of their favorite snacks. It is Rosie's fault for not telling me she was baking a cake today until late last night.

And just what does give you the right to beat poor defenseless eggs? And lock them up away in a freezer? :barnie

Cinnamon raisin? I understand your motivation now. Thanks for the clarification

Good morning

I have updates on princess.
Seeing her outside alone and knowing the weather is drawing closer to winter, I made the decision she needed much more. So as I said when her friend Tina died last November, it's best that I rehome her.

Looking for a new home was difficult and I couldn't be sure that they would protect her as I have done for so long.
Thankfully I found a sanctuary, one that is vegan and wouldn't even eat or sell their eggs. They give them their own eggs back 😤

Yesterday was my hardest time, what with my dear old dog dying on Saturday then seeing princess leaving on Tuesday my emotional state was pretty low and I was also in unbearable pain, so much so I had to cancel an important appointment.

But the happiest news for me was seeing princess's pictures and receiving updates since she arrived.
Firstly they said that she was chatting a heck of a lot, to a turkey next to her and the flock she could see outside that inturn came back to talk to her. ❤️

Then even more comforting news last night. Yesterday princess made 3 new friends. Now that really made my heart glow.

Here are the first pictures I've received

Flock chatting back to Princess

That poor turkey has to listen to everything princess has to say

From the information I'm receiving Princess is really excited to be there. This is one decision I've made that was right.
Oh Marie. I missed so many important things. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs hugs my friend.

It is heartwarming to see princess in her new home with her new friends. You have surely done right by her. It seems she has wonderful new place to live. These decisions are hard but what is best for our friends is most important. I'm proud of you for putting her first and doing this. It seems you found the perfect people to care for her.
