Here is a blast from the past fluffy butt to wish you all a happy Friday.
This was the lovely Babs (RIP) who always had an impeccably fluffy butt even when laying eggs up in the rafters.
She came to mind today because there was a discussion of Dark Cornish and Babs was part Dark Cornish.

Did you know that there’s a whole store dedicated to Versace in the mall of Dubai? High end accessories are sold daily in that store. When I saw the store sign, I immediately thought of the rooster Versace!

Could you imagine buying a Versace bag to haul Versace rooster around in? I could never afford one but the thought is hilarious!

Morning all! I'm 34 today, and very happy that we all made it this far. Interestingly enough, I was actually not breathing when I was born and had to spend time in an incubator. But I pulled through and here we are!

Kiddo found some of her toy chickens (and a duck!) To talk to while she eats breakfast. I think this is about half of her total little chicken toys? They're her favorite.

Happy birthday!! You're 4 years older than me I think I was supposed to be born on November 1st, too. Or maybe the 4th? 6th? Somewhere around there. But I decided to be born a couple weeks early LOL

Happy Halloween everyone!! Just caught this Accipiter (not sure if cooperii or striatus, we have both and it was too far away and moved too quick to tell) trying to catch a melanistic grey squirrel. No such luck, it'll have to try its luck performing tricks for treats somewhere else

Now I'm pretty sure I know why the chickens always freeze and start trilling while looking out toward the woods just about every evening around this time. On most of these occasions I've also heard a lot of rustling out there in the leaves but I always assumed it was deer or turkeys passing through since I can't see down there from where I sit.

I'm glad I know this guy's hanging around. Now I can keep an eye on it!

So I learned that Accipiters have been known to "play" with potential prey, large squirrels specifically. Large squirrels like fox squirrels are equal in size to coopers and sharp shinned hawks and are able to fight back with teeth and claws, so they'll sometimes get into these sort of standoffs where they gauge one anothers' seriousness. It almost looks like play! Here's a really neat video about it!
