Lovely. I don’t have any fluffy butts. I have naked butts and prickly butts.
It all looks so cold and uncomfortable.
It makes no sense that they wait this late. It's just crazy. Hattie has been done for 6 weeks and she is a late molter. Even Aurora is fully covered again if not done molting. What is wrong with these ladies?

Today I figured I would put an extra roosting ledge in Hen House B.

So I placed a board as a bridge across the span between the two ledges - I can move it during the day to access the nest boxes.

Lots of drama tonight with the change of the sleeping arrangements.

In Hen House A everyone finally settled down, both Rosario and Shirley are roosting there tonight.View attachment 4002721View attachment 4002714

I put Mr and Mrs LC up on the door to roost tonight

I put Red in a nestbox,

Betty hopped in the back nestbox herself - smart girl!

Henny hopped in the middle nestbox, so I popped Georgie in with her.

I need to fix the stall walls so they cannot fly up and roost there - they need to start going into the Hen Houses on their own - I am tired of moving them in there after they roost.
It takes time figuring out when/what/who goes where & w/40+ birds the dynamics keep changing I bet!

Do your winter snow/straw pathways for the chickens get moved to Mt Poopmore eventually? We dump our poop/straw into our garden beds but the straw is slower to break down.

Beautiful Apple Valley is where Roy Rogers & Dale Evans retired, died, & were buried. Nearby in Victorville was where the Roy Rogers Museum was located before family in 2003 relocated it to Branson, MO, where the museum failed & contents auctioned off. They should have kept it in Victorville on famous Route 66 where there's a lot more tourist traffic. As a kid in the 1950's it was a wholesome kids' TV cowboy show.

I did not know that. It's very sad. 😥

I give them all this space, and still the youngsters crowd in together. I am beginning to think they just like drama!

DH often finds multiple Silkie pileups in one small box day or night.

Last year I let my kiddos out in the horse paddock, I ran around scaring up the grasshoppers for the chooks to run after - it was a hoot.

It’s too hard now gathering everyone up to bring back inside….
I wish I would have seen that. 😆

Want to know how I learned to ski?
By Buddy took me to the top of the mountain to Big Bear Lake, and said “if you make it down the mountain, you can ski!
Losing the skiis off the boots & tumbling the rest of the way down the mountain is not a qualifier as a skiier. Now ~ if you can tumble down the whole way w/o breaking a leg THAT'S A SUCCESSFUL SKIIER!

I have never lost a ski! I did get a girlfriend who knows how to release my boot from the skis. But that’s another story

Wow that’s a good sized egg!

Thanks for the geography info, much appreciated. I remember one winter ? Think 2017 I drove my mum over to see our cousins on Christmas in Bakersfield, going up the mountains from LA area and over the other side it was snowing wet snow on the roads, but further up the hills it was sticking to the ground.

I guess that’s were my cousins would you skiing and such…? I was not impressed as I am not a winter person. But I was glad I was one of those on the road more used to crazy snowy roads - ugh. I was surprised they didn’t have sand and salt put down on the roads! Would have really helped with traction. Got to Bakersfield and it was a mild 10C (more like it!).

Ok well speaking of eggs I need to go and hunt down Mrs LC’s latest hiding spot. Silly girl!
You took Tehachapi pass didn’t you?
