It makes no sense that they wait this late. It's just crazy. Hattie has been done for 6 weeks and she is a late molter. Even Aurora is fully covered again if not done molting. What is wrong with these ladies?
It's an odd year. Moulting in December....moulting first year....you've already been dump on for snow, meanwhile here it's after midnight and still 40F.

I was promised a 5-ft American flag from the USO. They sent me confirmation that they received my request & the flag would take 6 to 8 weeks to process. It's been over 12 months & haven't heard or seen a thing:pop.

Needless to say ~ they won't be getting any more contributions from me ☹️.
Sounds like the VA ! :th

I know - what on earth are their wee little bodies thinking?

Poor Cash is so miserable. I am keeping her with Mr P in the summer house so she can warm up under the heater. Sue also is moulting now - both are in with Mr P.

Ok have a lovely day everyone.

It takes time figuring out when/what/who goes where & w/40+ birds the dynamics keep changing I bet!

Do your winter snow/straw pathways for the chickens get moved to Mt Poopmore eventually? We dump our poop/straw into our garden beds but the straw is slower to break down.
I will let them out there sometimes, but they tend to dig the base of the pile out, and get it strewn about. Messy little missies!

When I only had a few it was ok but all of them tend to cause a huge mess!

You took Tehachapi pass didn’t you?
Yep - so mum said.

My cousins have lived in Bakersfield most of their lives. Their dad worked on steel buildings, he was from a ranching family so he had horses and such for the kids.

I think my one cousin would like to have chickens but she has Pitties and they would likely kill the chickens she feels, so no chickens.

I told her she could come here in the summer and sit on a lawn chair with me and watch mine 😊👍

I'm sorry, Marie. All the more because I did not realise he was ill, I must have missed it. I feel sad for you that you have lost so many of your friends in a short time. I hope you will be all right, and find things that bring you confort.
There's been a cheeky feral boy hanging around for this year. He's not friendly with anyone in particular and never bothered with pusscat up until his last days. It really threw me when my lad jumped over the fence to get near him.

My heart stopped because I thought he would have been attacked. But too my astonishment they were fine and rubbed cheeks so I let them be.

As I went back out to check my puss was sat in the chair in my porch and Oliver the stray sat near him. I didn't know how Ill my boy was at the time but he wasn't eating as well, so I called Oliver back to eat a little with him and it worked.

Here's Oliver thanking me for his lunch.
He's a strange one because even though he won't let me touch him there's a lot of eye contact between us.

He protected me from a cat a few weeks ago. It started hissing at me while on top of my shed and Oliver left his precious dinner too go and chase him off.

So I'm kind of grateful to him now for three very good reasons. He comforted Pusscat and got him to eat, protected me plus has been invaluable at keeping the rats and mice away. We haven't seen any around here since he has arrived.

I've ordered him a flea killer. Heaven only knows how I'll get it on him but he's being wormed through his food and a monthly flea treatment is on its way.

I hope to trap and get him neutered soon.

He never once ever tried to hurt my chickens and I found it ever so amusing how with him being so very brave amongst other creatures, he was terrified of princess.
