After almost 4 1/2 months this was a sight for sore eyes today.

Left is Corona, right is Holly. Top is my mix Squirrel and bottom is my other Marans mix Raven. I love all my girls, and I appreciate every egg they lay and they all taste the same. My heart skips a beat when I get those dark and speckled eggs. If silkies have one downfall, it is that mine lay white eggs.
Until yours I had never heard of them laying white eggs. Mine lay pink, and peach (as you know I guess 🥰).

I want blue egg silkies 😊♥️

Well, it's now very windy and the dust is moving, so it is brighter.
Sand storm. Experienced one in Egypt.

All this talk of sand makes one thirsty!

Thirsty Thursday

That's a good sign! I really do not need another little cockerel.

As I was standing in line, waiting my turn to see and pick out the chicks, I was thinking I could just incubate my own, but decided against it because of the cockerel factor. Not sure what I would do with another one.

Speaking of which, are any of you witnessing a run of chicks this year? All the farm stores are having trouble keeping them in stock. As soon as they come in they are gone. They've never seen anything like it.

I hope all those new chicken owners aren't thinking they will be saving money on eggs. 😁
I have! Meyer ran out of what I wanted before March for the foreseeable future! I ordered from Mt Healthy in the middle of February, and still just barely got my order in before they ran out of the breeds I wanted. I have never seen chicks go so fast. I'm hoping we don't see a lot of 'Didn't realize we couldn't have these in town, somebody take these chickens' sort of threads. People probably also aren't seeing why eggs are going up and just see the price raise. I am concerned that a lot of flocks will be lost to Bird Flu because nobody will know how big of a threat it is or how to help prevent it.

I haven't asked at my local TSC. I wouldn't be surprised if people are buying chicks "to save on eggs." This is very similar to 2020, when a lot of people got "pandemic" chickens.

To be honest, we got chicks in March of 2020. But I'd wanted them for a long time and when hubby said, "Maybe we should get some chickens....?" I jumped on that and drove to TSC.
I did pretty well the same thing, but it had been a discussion for at least a year first and we got pullets from a friend. I did a lot of research beforehand as well and had a friend I could call with any questions

So far, I have learned that I have one very talkative chick. Will have to think of a special name for this one. Chicken Little? She doesn't seem to be afraid, but she sure is the town crier. When I go in to see if something is wrong, the other two are just hanging out, or laying around. All seems calm, except her. 😁
Loqui - short for loquacious one. ???:)????
