We did not get any orps. But I spoke with both the tractor supply and farm and home chicken ladies about enrolling kiddo into 4h maybe next year. I really need to start driving I guess.
I was told d'uccles are the ultimate 4h kid bird. Small, friendly, usually not afraid of the fair. She could even enter eggs that our birds lay!!!
You still have live chicken judging with AI? We haven't had live chicken judging at fairs in years in PA.

Yesterday was my first day off this month. Really glad that I won't be working such a stretch again soon. Eighteen days with only 1 day off is too many!
Last week Cassia decided to try out crowing, I told her that while she had a rather good and lovely crow she was a hen and it was better if she focused on laying eggs instead.

Now for my sad news. Ruca passed away in the dark hours between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. We had 14 years together, she was around 18. Rest in peace beautiful dinosaur. 2007-4/3/2025

I am not up at all on the various reptiles - but she was quite old for them, yes? I know it doesn't make losing her any easier - but she had a very good, loooonnnggg life with you🥰:hugs🥰:hugs

Another Day of Firsts

It was a big day for the little ladies!

First, dirt arrived!

They wanted nothing to do with it until I adorned it with meal worms. 😆

Second they were allowed free flight time and chose to roost on Mr. Hand! So wonderful!

Was at the feed store yesterday and they had some mealworms there. Got a bag for the chooks as I had not had any in a long while.

When I hauled the bag out the chooks knew immediately what it was - and it was total mayhem with them all wantimg some 😊

I haven’t been to a local fair in years, I wonder if there are still poultry shows here…?

I know that the auction and sales meetings for poultry have had times they are banned/cancelled due to AI.

Now CanadianWind (BYC member) is taking chicks to a local poultry auction next week so I guess they are business as usual here - at the moment.

It's amazing how well they read.
I love seeing chicks out in the grass. How wonderful. Thanks for sharing. 🥰
