Frogger is a beauty!

& Cotton would've got a lesson from our old Silkie Violet. She would push her face into another chicken's beak to groom her eyebrows & beard & while at it, most of her comb got chewed off too. In later yrs she didn't allow as much excessive grooming but she did teach successive Silkie generations to groom each other's faces for better vision. Birds are smart to figure things out.

Well, the trio is tucked in with Focus who was talking to them. It's a bit warm yet, so no surprise they don't want to settle under yet. The last had a large piece of shell stuck to a leg. Rather than damage the chick attempting to remove it, I left it for Mama as she's got the proper tools and motor skills for such delicate grooming. A blonde, a blue and a black (small enough to be another maybe Thing offspring). Will open coop extra early tomorrow to check on all of them.

17 chicks out there. Started with Cardhu 10, PITA 7. Egg broke, stench occurred, Cardhu abandoned nest. Babies also abandoned. Eventually 4 followed her. The other 6 jumped in with PITA. 1 of PITA's (the blonde) joined Cardhu. Results: Cardhu 5, PITA 12.

Next question: will this hold when PITA jumps her nest? When Cardhu returns to the coop tonight, will she take any that jump/fall ahead of PITA?

AS THE EGG TURNS will continue

Incubator: 3 chicks, 1 zipped (has been and no movement, so I don't think it made it), 1-2 popped (not sure on them)

Total current chick count: 20. The 3 go to Focus tonight. We will see how that goes.

Wow! Babies galore! 12 - so a manageable amt for her. Should be interesting to see if they stick together or brood at separate locations.

Just look at Hattie's tiny nibble. She has seen it before but wanted to try again to be sure.

Hattie may just be staying outta LF's way. Our youngest birds won't go near a treat if one of the older birds are eating out of our hand.

Oh that Holly, she is such a brat, I put her up on the roost ledge but nope she had to roam about, then I guess it became too dark to hop back up and so she is stuck roosting on the floor.

It’s very warm again tonight I have the fans on for everyone, but I guess it will cool enough on the floor for her.
