It's Monday, it's muggy* and I'm a mug for hatching two chicks that are now convinced I'm their mum.
*warm and humid - not sure if that's used outside the UK?

Yes muggy is used here. Today is not at all muggy, it was a chilly 11C and no humidity, the morning sky was glorious! Crystal clean atmosphere, the moon is a waning crescent and Venous shining bright below it.
That sounds perfect! "No humidity" isn't a thing here.

Be careful, that’s not a stress reliever squeeze toy. :old
I’m kidding
But (gently) squeezing it is the only way to make it stop squeaking!

I'm thinking about the rose comb genetics thing from the other day.

@rural mouse since Gytha has a straight comb, and SLW should have a rose comb, does that mean she isn't straightbred SLW?

From what I've read, there is a reduced fertility in rose comb birds (dunno if specific to wyandottes or all rose comb breeds). In an effort to increase fertility, some straight comb genetics were introduced. Being as straight comb hides, most wyandottes aren't pure for rose comb anymore. They're Rrpp not RRpp. Now Rrpp can produce RRpp 25% of the time, but is also produces rrpp 25% of the time. The other 50% are Rrpp and continue that trend.

Oh, believe me, "muggy" is used in the US as well, especially in the Southeast. 🥵

Very interesting! Thanks for the explanation!

So if I'm understanding right, if I ever bred her, would she only produce straight comb chicks? The father's genetics would have a say, but strictly from Gytha's side, they'd all be straight comb?
