They will just have to learn Stern Rooster's words, too, then! "NO, go to bed!!"She has always wanted to sleep outside. It was Nimue who got her to sleep inside. I am very worried how this will go with the new girls when they are united.
Oh no! I am so sorry for your loss. I am sooo far behind reading, only just got to this post.Complete and Utter Tragedy
I have terrible news. We lost Nimue today.
It had to be a hawk attack but the hawk did not kill her. She must have fallen in the pool when trying to get away and drowned.
I came out of the house to hear Lady Featherington bawking at the top of her lungs and no one was answering her. She had been in the coop laying her egg when the attack occurred.
No one was answering her.
I could find no other chickens anywhere.
I called and called and finally they started to emerge for an old main bird house I had stashed in a corner of the yard. 5 of them were in there.
It was like a clown car. First Aurora, then Aster, Niamh, and Hattie. Sydney would not come out. Here she is hidden inside the martin house.

I could not find Nimue. Then I noticed the feathers in the pool. She was gone.
I fished her out and laid her on the cement. When Aurora saw her, I can't explain the sound. She ran back and forth wailing for a few minutes until she settled down.
Niamh came over to the body and prodded it. Trying to get her to wake up.
I buried her next to Glynda.
Niamh came and said goodbye.

Once again my heart is broken by these chickens. The ones I am most close to seem to have the shortest lives. It's almost unbearable this time.
Niamh slept alone in the nest box tonight. She started on the roost but got down and went into nest box. I think it felt safer to be covered on all sides.

I'm so very worried for her. I have no idea if the other chickens will adopt her now. The two of them were their own unit in s lot of ways. If she is always alone from now on I don't think I will be able to bear it.
I don't know if I will posting again here for a while. I just don't know. My heart is broken and I don't know if I can bear talking about it for a while.
It was very hard to write this but you need to know where I've gone.
I’m sorry you lost Twister and hope the best for her sister.Oh I am sorry to hear this about your lovely ladies. Time does not stand still does it? I sure hope Minnie Minnie improves, I lost Twister this week - she went downhill so fast, I am sure it was likely a tumor or such - she had been 'off' all summer.
I was worried about her sister but this morning she seems well, and has been eating up a storm all day. I guess the best we can do is try to keep them happy and healthy. Who knew chickens could be so much stress at times.
Please let me know how your lady does.
Apparently, I had all kinds of voice to text errors here, but hopefully you get the idea.Hi Kelly. I agree Bridie is a cute name!
My girl is Bridge. It’s short for Bridgette. When Little Mill died, a couple of younger hens started attacking Bridge and I had to separate them. Then I had to nurse her back to health. She seems great now, but I still have to keep them separate. Flash, who was one of the ones attacking her, also died, but Flo would still like to get her.
Unfortunately, today Minnie Minnie is not feeling well. I got to them late this morning since I slept in and found her in the box and weak. She tells to be anorexic, so I tube fed her which I do occasionally. Unfortunately, she seemed to continue to the climb, so I started going into more crisis mode. She is sitting on a heating pad on the low setting in the kitchen with an area heater on. I placed a cup of water in front of her and she started drinking and drinking and drinking. She eventually got up and drank some more. But then she sat back down and I put her back on the heating pad.
I know better. I know that the first step is warmth and then hydration and then nutrition. But since she’s got this anorexic thing, I jumped straight to nutrition. Oops. I hope these measures will help. She seems slightly perkier, but still weak.
Thanks. Minnie got up a couple times, but tires very quickly. She’s so weak, she’s a bit unsteady. Her crop is slow, too, but I’m hoping to find it empty tomorrow so I can put all kinds of goodness in it (today I gave her some tuna fish, scrambled egg, baby bird formula, and clear Pedialyte blended, but couldn’t fit a whole 60 cc in her because her crop was already partly full.) She had put herself to bed early, but I retrieved her and brought her inside so she could be nice and toasty. However, she really wanted out and to go to bed with her sisters, so I allowed it. There’s a little a little Pet heating pad under her and she can move over if it’s too warm. I’ll go check on her again soon.Just look at Bridge. You have done very well by her!
Hopefully Minnie Minnie will come around.![]()
