oh… Poor Mel! Don’t beat yourself up, Shad. You are an amazing Bucket Boy and take excellent care of your birds. Thank goodness for Gloria, as this is a time that I agree antibiotics are in order. She’ll know the right one for a wound infection.Mel wasn't quite so chipper this morning so it was on with the headlamp, magnifying glass and another check over. I found a tiny wound under her wing which I just hadn't seen the first time around and it's infected.
I'm kicking myself. I know to look for at least two puncture wounds from hawk attacks, one or more from the front talons and one from the back foot. It's the back foot I missed. Now she's going to have to have antibiotics and that will make her feel like shite.
I got the wound open and bleeding again and the infection isn't bad yet. The bleeding and subsequent cleaning will help but once an infection is there, it's in the blood.....
Of course, cleaning like this is painful for Mel and me.
I have antibiotics supplied by Gloria my vet.`
definitely don’t mention it to many! LOL! It’s all good… It’s so hard to keep track sometimes.Oooops - I mistook the post and thought it was aimed at Minnie. If you and @drstratton are OK I won't mention to Minnie that it wasn't about her.
I have seen this behavior only when the weather is going to turn bad. You said the wind had picked up. Are you expecting rain or other severe weather?I think something really scared my flock. Yesterday I had trouble getting them home when I let them go over to my neighbor’s yard. They would not come when called. I had to go over and hand carry one home at a time , except for a few who came at the beginning. Currently, the gate is wide open and more than half of them are choosing to stay inside the run. This is really unusual behavior for them.
I am so very happy that you have gotten to this place. It is very rewarding to get the flock together as one isn't it.I know. I am so happy about it. And it is all relatively peaceful. Maggie encourages the Little Princess to fly down and walk back up if they come up 'out of order' but as they are always flying up and down off the big roost it is not particularly disruptive.
Lol! Didn't I say Minnie was beautiful too...I intended to do so....You tell her I said she is a very beautiful girl!Oooops - I mistook the post and thought it was aimed at Minnie. If you and @drstratton are OK I won't mention to Minnie that it wasn't about her.
She is still limping and not tussling with anyone. The whole flock is very subdued since it happened. I gave them some apple cores today. There was not much fighting over them.YES! Thank you. How’s Aurora today?
Bob, do you wanna know a meat treat that my flock is absolutely crazy for? Beef liver! I got it at first when Roxy got really anemic… Remember when her intestines were bleeding? Anyway, I had no idea, because I had never purchased it before, but it is super, super cheap! By cheap, I mean inexpensive. And it’s an amazing iron boost. My flock goes absolutely crazy for it. I cut it into tiny little cubes and I control who gets a bite at a time. She is still limping and not tussling with anyone. The whole flock is very subdued since it happened. I gave them some apple cores today. There was not much fighting over them.
I did get a kick out of Lilly today. I gave them some small pieces of ham and Lilly got one that was too big to swallow. She just walked around with her head up high growling as the rest of the flock tried to line up to steal it from her.
Love those heads shots!Silly Minnie
I was wondering how the Little Princesses would fit in a comb as well as their spiky hair-dos, and it turns out that Minnie can’t!
I hope it doesn’t get in the way of her seeing properly.
