Remind me to never make Hazel angry!I decided to band the Buckeyes with very small zip ties, and monitor carefully. I armed myself with a ration of mealworms for rewards and enticements (for them of course!).
Hazel, who is easiest to take into my arms and whom I can tell apart pretty easily when she's talking (most of the time while I'm in the run) and who is dominant when eating mealworms, barging in between everyone in order to eat like a sewing machine from my hand, was first.
Everyone immediately noticed her little green anklet when I put her down. A little bit of testing & feeling it was all.
Butters, leader in foraging and cat defense, was next. Afterwards she also inspected her yellow tie but didn't keep at it.
Then because I can't really tell by looking or voice between Peanut and Popcorn anymore, I got off my little stool, squatted down and sort of scratched around with a stick, talked to them all, wiggled the waterer nipples for them as they drank and inspected the log bark, and waited for Popcorn to jump onto my back, as that is what she has been wont to do since she was a tiny little chick. She was up there in no time. Good girl! Blue for her.
I decided Peanut would get one too, just so everyone had a band. Red for her, and I'll watch in case that color is too peck attractive.
I got some pictures for the tax finally! They all got in a preening group, mostly ignoring their own and their flock mates' bands. Here's Butters and Peanut.
