Well I can't put it off any longer, tonight at roosting time going to have to put the leg bands on the Marans. If not soon i'll not be able to tell any of the girls apart. This is especially true between Daisy and her daughter Clover. Clover is the spitting image of her mother, and as she's maturing and her comb and wattles are turning redder if they are next to each other the only difference is Clover has a tad more copper in her hackles. I took these pictures a few minutes ago. You tell me if you can tell them apart lol.

The wattles of one are quite different to the other.
One seems to have a slight bend at the back of her comb.
The tail feathers are different on each.
One is noticably bigger than the other from the pictures.

Your right shad, Daisy has the slight bend and is still bigger then her daughter, Clover has a lower tailset. But at the rate she's growing in a month or so she'll be as big as her momma. If i'm out there for a while I can pick them out easily, but if i'm making a quick trip out, and being mobbed by everyone, I mix them up. The one sure way to tell them apart is that Daisy loves to be held and asks to be picked up. Clover lets me hold her maybe once a week and normally runs when I reach out to touch her. I've got several different colors of bands, thinking of separating the groups by color. Daisy, Drummie, and Holly will have red bands. Clover will have no band, the 4 from Hollies clutch will be green, and the 2 that momma hen are raising will be orange.

True, though I was trying to make a serious point that got stuffed up by the goat distraction.
My point was to thank everyone for creating such a lovely, supportive and kind community and a wonderful global virtual flock.
BYC is generally a respectful place relative to the real world of social media, but even in BYC this stands out as a wonderful community.
So I just wanted to say thank you for everyone contributing to that and for letting me and my Princesses participate.

I would have to second that, I consider you guys a circle of friends. :hugs

We all knew it would come. Hopefully they all enjoy the night sleeping together.

Now I have never witnessed mine eating a mouse but I have seen plenty of pictures of it occurring on BYC. Was it as slick as people say it is? I have a morbid curiosity on this topic.
Mine are just like cats when it comes to mice. Some play time then gobble. The cats and chickens here have been known to steal mice from each other :sick

Fade into Lightness

Is it possible that chicken feathers fade? Check out Aurora's new tan feathers post molt.

Now look at her feathers back in June.

Yes, I think so. Lucy’s feathers got considerably lighter as she got older.

When we first got her at around 18 months:
