I don't know how to write this without sounding..........
No need for anyone to be sorry; except for the women who owns the Huskies.
I free range and I lose chickens every year. They have a wonderful life until they die. They go where they want, get well fed, all hens get the opportunity to sit and hatch. They get vet attention if it's not something I can do myself confidently. They have roosters and have 12.5 acres to roam in if they choose.
But, thanks for commenting. I do hope I haven't come across as rude.

No, it Is not rude. We understand how you manage you flocks. The senseless loss of any living creature is something to regret. The dog did not kill her to stay alive.

My in~laws, who lived next door to us for 20 years, had a fiberglass inground pool. The drongos used to sit on a dead branch & dive bomb into their pool. They used to make an incredible racket.

That is a problem I do not have. Wild ducks, yes, drongos, no.

I find it very hard to blame the dogs.
It was a senseless loss but we get more than our share of senseless people out here in the National Park. They arrive with a pack of potentially dangerous dogs and seem to think they are tough wandering around the park with their pack of dogs.
Most people here just shoot the dogs. Fortunately I don't own a gun. I'm not sure having dragged a snarling Husky off one of the ewes here by it's ears that I wouldn't choose to shoot the owner.

She was. :( I try to be a little dispassionate about my chickens [not very good @ it] because there's so much that can go so wrong so quickly. *sigh* And I know there are risks with everything. I also know she had a great life with Shad! Not every chicken has an open house invitation & pizza to boot!

Shad's chickens get to be chickens as they were originally designed. There is nothing wrong with that. He has my deepest respect for how he manages his flock and it is a good life for the birds under his care.

I just get sad at senseless death. :(

I have to agree that Santa does look a bit possessive. :gigYou probably made his day, he may have been getting sick of all the dogs!

I know I did not see a single cat. It must have been a whole day of dogs.

Here in the States Petsmart is doing a free picture with Santa for your pets this weekend. I can't imagine how they would react if someone showed up with a hen. Not that I am issuing a challenge. i do however highly endorse it. it has been the highlight of our holiday season so far!

Oh, I get you Bob. :hugs I wish I had the space to run my flock the way Shad does ~ though I'm far more squeamish & abhor senseless deaths. I also don't like dogs ~ what happened is one reason why. I know the owner is to blame [dogs are banned in all our National Parks] & if I owned a gun I'm not sure I wouldn't take a pot shot ~ I'm an awful shot so everyone would probably be quite safe...:gigbut chickens are just so bloomin' defenseless... :(

Yes, I use like as a ‘like’ and also as a bookmark so I know where I’m up to, this was definitely not a ‘like’ post. She was so beautiful.
She was. She would have been nine years old this coming March.
One of her daughters, Hurry, is growing up to look very much like her.
I will miss her but I try to bear in mind she had already had more life then the majority of chickens both in length and content. She's buried with other members of her family with a walnut and a lump of cheese to pay the ferry man.............she'll probably eat both. She loved a bit of cheese.:love
