Shad's chickens get to be chickens as they were originally designed. There is nothing wrong with that. He has my deepest respect for how he manages his flock and it is a good life for the birds under his care.

I just get sad at senseless death. :(
That's very kind of you to write so Bob.

Not a good day yesterday. Has two Huskies attack the sheep and chickens. They pulled down one ewe and her leg broke and killed my lovely Ruffles.
This is my lovely Ruffles on the left with her best mate Fat Bird.

Even though ruffles had a long, chickeny life I'm still sorry it was cut short.

How many colored eggs are you getting right now?

Not too many eggs for now.. Maggie, Daffy, and very rarely Poppy.. and only five others are laying sparsely ... but Maggie and Daffy are almost everyday... so I mostly get pale blue eggs..

I am kind of sad that @MaryJanet hasn't asked if she could use the photo as the background on her computer. ;)

Aside from that this really is turning out to be one of the best things we have done this holiday season. We cant stop chatting about it and it is just the two of us.
:yuckyuck:gig

I know I did not see a single cat. It must have been a whole day of dogs.

Here in the States PetCo is doing a free picture with Santa for your pets this weekend. I can't imagine how they would react if someone showed up with a hen. Not that I am issuing a challenge. i do however highly endorse it. it has been the highlight of our holiday season so far!
Challenge excepted :D.. although it might be easier bringing the standard poodle... and a little less crazy looking

"Some days are diamonds and some days are stones, …" as the song goes. Sorry you had a rocky one! So the ewe ended up losing her life as well?:(
Did the dog owner pay compensation for the 'property' loss?

I haven't caught up with her yet. I'm sure you can imagine the chaos with two huskies tearing around, the stupid women a hundred metres further up the land calling the dogs and blowing a whistle, which the dogs completely ignored. I just wanted her and the dogs off the property as quickly as possible. She wouldn't climb down the bank where one of the dogs killed Ruffles and just stood at the top shouting at it. I went down and chased the dog up the bank.
The last I saw of the women she was crying because I think I may have said a few unpleasant words in a not very friendly tone of voice and because I had ripped one of the dogs ears dragging it off the ewe.
I've got the Park Wardens trying to track her down. I've asked in the village but nobody seems to know her. Apparently her dogs had also been to the next farm North but their dogs had driven them off.

I have zero tolerance for dog owners who can't control their animals. They just shouldn't own them. Plus, a big dog like that should always be leashed in a public space!:barnie:rant:old I hope they catch up with her you get compensated.

There isn't really an amount of money that could compensate for Ruffles death; not for me anyway. I was there when she hatched. I've been there for every chick she hatched, she's been my friend for almost nine years. I've spent more time with these chickens than I have with any person in my life excepting my childhood possibly. You can't compensate for that degree of loss. In a court Ruffles would get assessed as a chicken; a few dollars if that. Much the same for Thistle the ewe.
Justice might be to make the women come here and do what I do for eight years. I think she might understand after that, but I wouldn't count on it.
