Hi Bob, I direct dose by putting a full or half low dose right into her beak and let her swallow it.

So Ruby had 100cc of clear fluid drained off her abdomen. Avian vet indicated it was not yolky, pussy or bloody... just looked like general inflammation. Vet left treatment up to me to decide. Ruby had another hormone implant and will go on ibuprofen for inflammation. Fingers crossed she responds as well as she has in the past. We could always add antibiotics later if needed, but avian vet was OK with wait and see first.

Edited to add: Ruby will be four at the end of March.
Thanks so much. I hope the fluid removal will perk her up. I'm glad that you have a vet that will help you like this. You are very fortunate.

Hope much ibuprofen do you give her?

I think you'd like them. Years and years ago, my grandfather gave me $4.00 to take with me when my mom had to run to a feed store and told me I could spend it on ANYTHING I wanted. Well 4 year old me came home with 2 chicks of my very own. 2 Dominiques. Here we refer to them as Dommers. I ended up with a pair and those 2 chickens started my obsession with chickens that is still going strong to this day. When I got them it was still very early spring so they had to stay in the house for a couple weeks. That time period had me thinking that these were house chickens, and when it was time to put them outside I had a fit. I drove my mother nuts bringing them back inside because that is where they belonged. She would toss them out, dare me to bring them back inside, and under a hour later turn around and find them perched on the back of the kitchen chair. Repeat the process for many months and she finally sorta gave up. Fred and Wilma got special visitation privileges' that the other chickens never got. Wilma had her own nest box just inside the kitchen door that she used faithfully and Fred grew up to be my best friend as a child. They were smart and trainable, I could place either one of them on something and tell them to stay and they would remain there until I put them down. Actually my Marans remind me so much of them, just in a black fluffy footed variety.
What a wonderful story. Thanks for that. I guess I should consider them the next time I add to the flock. They are very pretty!

Something for Fun

I was googling around the internet and I happened across this website discussing Wyandottes. A quiz popped up to align me with my perfect chicken breed. So obviously I took the quiz. Here is the website in case you want to do so as well. The quiz pops up when you access the site.

I’ve never seen one. :celebrate

Oh yes, Rosie is head hen and will come and bop her one and chase her off. My getting upset with Alinta upsets Brenna and Rosie and Brenna will try and hide and then Rosie gets torn between sorting us out and making sure Brenna is ok, it is a bit of a mess. I think we need more chickens, which sounds ridiculous in a way, but I think 3 is a terrible number. I should have known better, I am married to a middle child 🤣
I love that she defends you and cares for her flock. Rosie is a very good alpha hen!

I find even numbers work better so everyone can pair up. I had 3 for a long time. When I had 4 everything was smoother.

I found out my feed store had chicks. I had to go buy more chicken feed. I .. had..to...buy...some..chicks. Ok, so Bob is a huge enabler here. It's his fault that one of the chicks I got was a black polish! 🤣. Yep, all his fault. His girl is adorable. I haven't had one for years. I think I posted a photo a while back...a buff. Here's my baby. Man, pretty fiesty..a goer. Got my leghorn. A sexlink, and you could call the other a sexlink.. because it is..a Sapphire Gem. Blue. This baby is on a card table we set up for puzzles for my hubby. On a good day he can work on a 100 piece. :) Working on one today. Got a kick out of the baby chick up there. View attachment 2546209
I am so happy to inspire you. I surely hope that they bring you the joy they have brought to me. 🥰🥰

Such a happy video. All is good with the world of Fluffy Butt Acres. :love
It sure was today. What a great start. The tribe was all over the yard today! I love getting up from my desk and seeing them wandering the yard, in the sun, being chickens again!
😁😎🌞
