View attachment 1995716 Inspired by @Shadrach burial photos, I am moving on. I made this to remember Scary as I couldn't really bury her, and now I am fully focused on my other 3 chickens (Maggie, Elizabeth and Diana), on building the Chicken Palace, and maybe, maybe, on getting some more chickens in the spring.
I would like to write it gets easier, but it hasn't for me. I still think about chickens that died nine, or ten years ago.

Happy Anniversary

One year ago today I started this thread. I need to thank all of you who have taken the time to read and post here. This has more than exceeded my expectations. What started as a way to record the stories of my flock has become a community. A community where we welcomed a few more members even in the last few days.

I treasure all of you and look forward to another year of stories and fun.
It's a great thread! Thanks for welcoming me into the group!

Recalibrated

I got the automated door recalibrated today. I took a photo of it installed and a video of it operating for those that are curious.

The early results are very positive. It stayed open at least 20 minutes longer tonight. It should also open earlier in the morning for them.

That's great! Hope it works out better now!

Wow, a year! I only came in around 4-5 months ago but I started from the beginning of the thread. I feel I have made some friends on this thread, even though we haven't met IRL. I think this is such a supportive, thoughtful, compassionate community and I'm addicted to checking the regular threads I read, just to see what has been going on! Thank you Bob for starting this thread and allowing me to make your acquaintance. :hugs
I didn't go back to the beginning. Just jumped in. :ya

:hugs It's a beautiful memorial! :hugs

I haven't read it all either ~ but that's ok. Things eventually become clear. :D The hardest part is keeping track of where certain parts of a conversation have moved to amongst 4 threads!:lau

My discussion of my wicked broody is now on MJ's thread. :gig Poor MJ. I just try not to fry my poor little brain. :D

The biggest thing is thinking you are posting on one thread and you are on a different one. I won't admit to how many times I've done that!

I think you’re a great chook-dad Shad. I feel a bit guilty when I think of Emily, my original girl along with Lucy. They were quite similar, I don’t think I’d noticed any individual personality traits by the time she died. I was sad and she’s the only girl I buried. I wasn’t devastated like I was with Penny and Bessie, possibly because I found her dead on the ground and hadn’t gone through efforts to save her like the other two. I’d only had chooks for eight months by the time Emily died and and still had much to learn. She and Lucy also didn’t free-range. That started after Emily died; Lucy seemed sad and lonely, so we let her out when we were in the yard. Then when we got Penny and Chickie, they had supervised free-ranging. That’s when I started noticing personalities.

I feel guilty that I don’t think about Emily as much as I do Penny and Bessie.
