You will laugh and you will cry. It is a vibrant slice of life if I do say so myself.

I went back and was reading old posts myself last night. My wife wanted to know what was so funny as I giggled to myself.

That happens here too. DH can't figure out what the big deal is with BYC, but then he wants to know everything if I giggle or sniffle. He's also not taking any ownership of the chickens, but he has built 3 coops and will build his 4th in March, and while I've been giving them Corid for a week and then vitamins for a week, his first question as I head out the door is, "need help?" Imagine what it would be like if he were actually interested. I mentioned the other day that one of my cockerels relocated himself in with my hens and was taking "ownership". A few minutes later I noticed him walking out there.

The biggest thing is thinking you are posting on one thread and you are on a different one. I won't admit to how many times I've done that!

I like all three of these threads and the Cafe. I read some others but I joined BYC to talk about chickens.

I think you’re a great chook-dad Shad. I feel a bit guilty when I think of Emily, my original girl along with Lucy. They were quite similar, I don’t think I’d noticed any individual personality traits by the time she died. I was sad and she’s the only girl I buried. I wasn’t devastated like I was with Penny and Bessie, possibly because I found her dead on the ground and hadn’t gone through efforts to save her like the other two. I’d only had chooks for eight months by the time Emily died and and still had much to learn. She and Lucy also didn’t free-range. That started after Emily died; Lucy seemed sad and lonely, so we let her out when we were in the yard. Then when we got Penny and Chickie, they had supervised free-ranging. That’s when I started noticing personalities.

I feel guilty that I don’t think about Emily as much as I do Penny and Bessie.

Feeling guilty doesn't help anyone in my opinion. Often there is only so much one can do and what you don't know you can hardly be blamed for.

Sounds like my man. Didn't want chickens. Didn't want eggs but built me a super coop & run & spent a whole Sunday afternoon looking @ chicken pictures with me & discussing various attributes before I consider my next buy ~ which I plan on being more Campines, silver if I can get them. He'd like to do meat chickens but I won't take any responsibility for them. I don't eat meat.

Maybe Hattie pressured her into it. Chicken peer pressure, that's a thing, right?

In the process, Lilly destroyed Hattie's nest (the top nesting box). She threw all the straw into the coop and kicked the ceramic egg to the side. Check it out.

The egg is much smaller than Hattie's and very pale but I don't care.

I cannot remember the last time Lilly laid an egg. What a wonderful treat from her today.

How old is Lilly Bob?

At least 6. I rescued her and Patsy from living underneath someone's front porch. I have no idea what her true age is. She had not laid an egg in what seems like 6 months. I don't believe I marked the day she stopped. I'll try to pay better attention from now on. Eggs from Patsy and Lilly were pretty sparse this past year. I kind of figured she was done.
