OKay, I'll confess. I have been in the spare room letting the littles jump and crawl all over me. (While I was chatting with you peeps) I have special clothing for the "Accidents" but now, as Disney says, "Now it's time to say goodbye, to all our company..M..I..C.. K..E..Y.. M..O..U..S..E! Gute Nacht, Bonne nuit, Buenos noches, And I speak Russian too, but I can't spell it on this site!:frow
Good night. :frow

I have had a few soft shells since January, interestingly, two laid in the roost area and fallen through the bars. One or two in the nest box.

I know sometimes people crush calcium pills as you mention. Is it possible for a chicken that is eating feed normally to not eat enough oyster shell? Or that it is not getting absorbed well enough, and the calcium pills would perhaps work better for them?

I should research this. Like - what is the dosing? For how long? Too much calcium could be a problem I would think. It would be for everyone in general, or should be only for a problematic hen? I don't know who this egg belonged to. If the occasional soft shell is one hen all the time, or all the hens occasionally.
Yes, I believe my Dorothy may have a calcium absorption problem. Also, she likes to eat eggshells, but not oyster shells. 🙄

I am glad you are so observant. Your tribe is lucky to have you. I'm glad I can make you feel better. I'm sure some coconut oil wouldn't hurt her. Just do it in the morning if you do treat it. Otherwise her comb will grease up her wing feathers when she tucks her head in to sleep.
Interesting! One of the differences between California and the colder zones. My girls don’t tuck their heads at roosting time.

Those are just wonderful. She is such a pretty young lady. I just love watching them scratch and find food. They seem so happy just scratching along and eating. Thanks for that. I miss watching my white ladies scratch their way across the lawn. 🥰
