You could put a rubber sink mat down, that would be more washable.
Mine lay in dishwashing bowls so it isn't a hard surface under all the shavings. They rarely dig all the way down to the bowl though.

I just save the egg shells from the ladies, crunch them up, and feed them a bowl at their choosing. (They eat them too)
I do that too but give them oyster shell as well. Choosy ladies like one, then the other, then both.

Definitely no on the mice in my case. I have a camera on both feed stations and the bag of feed is in a steel trash can with a tight fitting lid. No mouse poo either. I think they really are guzzling.
I noticed this evening that their crops are HUGE like they have been stuffing their little faces to bursting point!
Didn't stop them wanting a bit of a treat as they went up to roost! :lau
Mine have had lopsided crops every night. They are hogging down big time before bed.

I check my birds crops every night as I tuck them up in the barn/coop. All full and happy tonight. Today I was moving some old plywood, and had the big birds wait as I did it. BINGO! Bugs galore, everyone ate a furious feast. (But wanted more) all good here in paradise tonight.
(Are bugs considered fast food)? :gig

It's Pi day here in the states

OKay, I'll confess. I have been in the spare room letting the littles jump and crawl all over me. (While I was chatting with you peeps) I have special clothing for the "Accidents" but now, as Disney says, "Now it's time to say goodbye, to all our company..M..I..C.. K..E..Y.. M..O..U..S..E! Gute Nacht, Bonne nuit, Buenos noches, And I speak Russian too, but I can't spell it on this site!:frow
