Hi folks. Having trouble catching up. 50 pages to go and may have missed some stuff along the way. It was an unnerving morning, as TWO young birds (Flo, pullet and Minnie, less than 2-year-old) were clearly NOT feeling well. For some reason my neighbor had thrown brown rice all over his yard and they got into it the previous two late afternoons. I have worked way too hard to slim them down and keep them healthy for them to have unlimited access to uncooked rice, so today I kept them home (except Dorothy and Ester who are not contained by my rinky dink poultry fence.) I thought they might be backed up, so mixed baby bird formula with water and coconut oil into a paste thinking the coconut oil would lubricate the GI tract. Flo improved pretty early, but Minnie took all day. Here she is with her droopy wings and tail:

I don’t know for sure that the rice was the issue, but it was the young birds hanging out in that area yesterday and two young ones were sick.

Minnie and Flo seem to have recovered. Phew! Not sure about the poop. There have been some loose stools with watery urates, but I think they are Sunny’s.

Seems the good day never ends. Just now, I went to the local market, and the owner knew before, that I had lost so many hens lately, he had a (almost laying age) New Hampshire Red Pullet, he gave to me for free. She has a little deformed beak problem, but nothing I can’t handle.
She’s a lovely pullet, and I will have her trained to my home in no time. Two week separation isn’t going to be fun, but I can handle that also. I’m back up to eleven chickens now, YAY!

Two rather odd shots of Hurry. When I looked at the pictures I was a bit concerend and went and gave her a check over. I've just caught odd postures thankfully because hse seems fine.

Emergency averted. Rocks-Anne was in the barn/coop screaming as if in real pain. I brought her inside and rubbed her abdomen. She quieted down, and finally laid her egg, right in my lap. (Wow, let me tell you, This man was worried!)
