Of course someone is making money off of it, I didn’t take it as a criticism.
I do feel a bit stupid actually in a way. It’s because that from the earliest I can remember so much of our healthcare system has been subsidised (I had to have an emergency surgical procedure done 18 months ago (full gen anaesthesia and it only cost me in total the $9 medication to take prior to the op) so I work, pay taxes and it’s just what it is.
I guess hearing you guys over there need to shell out for ‘x, y and z’ is stunning to me and I realise how much I take our system for granted.
I know I haven’t articulated this well, I’m really drained, and worried. Easter holidays can’t come soon enough

She will lay every day. Hopefully you get lucky and she makes it through the laying stage of her life safely. It does happen and I know of leghorns that have lived over 5 years, well past their effective laying time.

It is not hopeless. :hugs
I try to make sure she (and all my girls) eat well. Good nutrition. Keep them as healthy as I can. :fl

Sadly leghorns and laying issues seem to go hand in hand. Chickens just weren't meant to lay so many eggs. 😕
Yep, I know. I said I wasn’t getting any more Leghorns and then went and got Flash, who has a bunch of Leghorn and acts like one. Her (blue) eggs are getting bigger quickly. I hope getting her wasn’t stupid of me.

You have to pay for COVID tests?
Ours are free here 🤔
Our county was giving “free” vaccines, but now they’ve been redistributed to providers. My second appointment was cancelled and I had to go through my provided. It too them a few days to figure it out, but once they did, it goes smoothly. Someone always pays, and it makes sense to me that they’ve shifted as much of that cost to the health care providers as possible.

Oops. I thought you meant vaccines. Same with the tests, I believe. Our school district has been paying for tests for staff snd students for months. I think that might scale down as conditions improve.

It is so interesting to hear about different countries and their systems.
We get flu shots as staff members from our school budget each year. I’m guessing soon it will also be a COVID shot too.

What a wonderful tax.

I have been thinking about what you said regarding you husband not liking how upset you get when something happens to one. It is kind of the mirror image to my situation.

Mrs BY Bob did not like how upset I was when Patsy passed in my arms. She actually told me if I was going to be that upset over a chicken there would be no more new ones. Because of this, as I reflect back now, I grieved for Maleficent in private, not in front of her. Thankfully I had my friends here to help.

I recognize that it is hard for our loved ones to watch us be so sad. For me though the depth of the sadness is related to the depth of the joy an attachment to them has brought us. I believe that if one has not experienced great joy, then great sorrow does not come. All should rejoice that we have been able to experience such wonderful connections. We should also not be shamed for showing our emotions.

My brother has chickens and the last time one passed his wife was broken up. He called me about it and made the mistake of saying "my gosh it was just a chicken".

They are as much a member of my family as any cat or dog has ever been.

I think that you should push back on your husband. Why should your joy be limited because he doesn't want to deal with you being upset? Instead help him to understand that grieving is a good thing. It means their life had meaning to you. What is more special than that?

Legbars lay way fewer eggs than leghorns per year. On average they lay about 180 to 200 eggs per year. Daisy, the greatest hen ever laid 350 eggs 1 year. I believe that you will be much less likely to have the usual leghorn egg problems.
