It never rains but it pours @ your place.Well, my friends, as though I don’t already have too much to do, I have a new project on top of the rest... thistle and rose bush eradication. I think they may be the prime culprits when it comes to the bumblefoot issues. Dean’s is all cleared up, but he’s still getting pedicures for potential SLM/rough skin, as is Sammy. I keep threatening Cass because his legs are starting to look a little rough as well. The feathered feet are a PITA when it comes to determining “is that a problem or just the feathers”.
Roostie is still on the to do list, (waiting on his eye now, Shad if you do remember which does what, it’s his left that was affected). I caught another (earlier) case of bumblefoot in one of the Red Rock pullets, but with also quite extreme swelling, it seemed to balloon up over night! So thankful for finally having antibiotics on hand... The only thing I can think of is the rose bushes and thistles that could be causing this. I will look over their roosts again when I next deep clean the coop, but really, it’s just crazy here right now.
I am thanking my lucky stars that Chickie Hawk isn’t running into any issues, I don’t think I could handle that even with DH’s help! We checked his feet very thoroughly when we moved him to repair the tractor last month, and he still managed to draw blood and give me a few good bruises even with a towel, and through two layers of long sleeves. He just had a couple little bloody spots where his ladies had plucked out his foot feathers again, but otherwise all nice and normal.
That looks like a nice spot.Thank your, Bob. It was a nice day. My husband and I also went kayaking on our local reservoir (note how crazy low the water is for the end of rainy season).

I have nothing to say to this. You know what I called my chickens.I'm not having that! Okay, a lot of the names I gave the chickens here are on the industrial or weird side but they suit the chickens and they're pretty unusual.
How very pretty!Good morning east coast, I am up, built a fire in the woodstove, its 32 outI have my coffee
and so the day begins. I am going to replant some seed a vole ate, and ................ well so many other chores.
I'll get a flock pic when there is some light outside. this one was from last evening after the y all went to bed.

You can see water. Is it lake or river? The PNW is so wonderful, we have been so blessed to live here, I grew up in the NM desert. We are thankful everyday. We had a nice (quick) sunset last evening.View attachment 2601624
Strange how the needs of the various chickens can draw out some really intense emotions, and in my case at least, when one becomes less needy another takes it place. There’s a local short story contest (750words) thats closing in 2 days. Topic is ‘the gift’.
I’ve known about it for a month but haven’t had that moment of cohesion with an idea that fits the topic.
I’m considering writing something based on Penny and Bok. It could turn out totally lame but it could turn into something decent.
My first feathered ladies, and so many intangible gifts that we have given each other that it might just work...
I have a lot of emotion going on with Bok right now, I need to do something with it![]()
He truly is special.I had to go out and just hold Jaffar just now. He’s my hero rooster, and deserves the best. I have never had such an amazing animal as he is. He responded by laying his beak on my shoulder, to snuggle. Awesome!![]()
I love your names. I even tried to add your style to my suggestions for @Ribh. Just in case she was so inclined.I'm not having that! Okay, a lot of the names I gave the chickens here are on the industrial or weird side but they suit the chickens and they're pretty unusual.
Definite cheese to be found here.WELCOME TO BYC! Very informative, fun, and sometimes cheesey.![]()
