I haven't figured out what goes on in chickeny heads. My lot don't pair off like yours do. What I do have, as I think you prophesied would happen, is 2 distinct tribes. Each tribe has 10 chickens. Each tribe has one girl who is something of a loner. Each tribe has a lead hen. They tend to move together as a tribe & have divided the garden area between them. The older girls have taken under the verandah, along the hill & the ginger bush. The younger birds like under the palms out the front. They have divided the coop area as well, the older girls deciding which area they want, the younger ones taking what's left over. The infirmary has caused some confusion as the 3 who came with them like to come hang with them. The Vorwerks aren't so sure they belong & Olivia thinks she should be a house chicken. Meanwhile I have 4 smaller ones yet to integrate & they are not as placid as the last lot. 🙄
I did think that this would be the result. With the groups being roughly equivalent in size I thought the would split up during the day. There is nothing wrong with that. My guess would be that the 4 new ones will pick a tribe, most likely the one that has chickens that look like them, and join that one. I am very interested to see that play out.

It is quite possible that mine pair off as they do as a result of the environment they are kept in along with the low number of chickens in said environment. Now please don't think they pair off all day. They spend a significant part of the day as a tribe as well. Throughout the day the tribe will splinter and the parts will move off and then they will reconstitute.

I've never seen any hen try to take on Fat Bird. I have seen competition for overall second in most tribe set ups I've had here.
Here it seems that seniority doesn't apply in all circumstances. I've seen Tackle try to usurp her mother Fudge; that was a bit of a scrap!
Nolia is the most senior now in Tribe 2, but for some reason Bracket takes an almost equal position except when it comes to treats.
No one ever took on Daisy, the greatest hen ever, Patsy, or Lilly. But as we all know, something went down with Hattie. You may be on to something there @Shadrach

How close is the hand to being usable, realistically? Frankly I'm glad you gave it another day to heal.
Healing, but hurts like hockey sticks. I have a hard time holding my animals. And to me, that’s more pain than the physical pain. But I’m relaxing in the spare room with Rocks-Anne just now. She ran all the way across the property, just to be held. Pain or not that’s worth everything
