When its possible in the future for you to add another chicken or two, you need at least 1 black hen or rooster. I adore mine and they are not just simply black. Get one out in the sunlight and you can loose yourself looking at all the different sheens coming off their feathers. Depending on time of day and lighting I've caught blue, green and purple mixed in with my girls feathers. If we only count adults I'm up to 8 black chickens, 6 of them hens.
Here's Bunny showing off her rich coloring. Oh and not sure about other breeds, but my Marans have a different feel to their feathers. Its like rubbing silk or satin.

I know we have quite a few flower enthusiasts on here. This is the bloom from my magnolia tree. The breed is sunsation. It starts a lime green and slowly turns yellow with a tinge of pink.

She had just went broody, was the first of many stare downs and shrieks over guarding her nest. She's still just as grumpy, but has 6 babies to protect.

One of the EE's has wry neck. She was fine this morning. Rich checked on them when he got home and she was flat out on her back and not moving. He put it outside to bury.

I came home from work and heard a chick peeping. I found it and brought it inside. I looked at it and it was all floppy with her eyes closed. I gave her vitamins and put her in a warm place. Within the hour he eyes are open and she can sit up but not walk yet. She'll stay in her little "bed" tonight and hopefully she'll e better by morning.

Daily news. Beethoven-Hen was having a sneezing attack, and I brought her in (Wasn’t easy) and pulled out a small feather from her nose. Granted, I love this leghorn, and she’s very special to me too! View attachment 2641547
