Alpha chicken Alelle (aka mean-girl Alelle)

Yesterday I put out the flock block treat for the babies. It is seed and corn all compressed together in a 10 lb cube. (It looks quite yummy, and if it came in smaller bar sized portions I might be tempted to eat it myself)

Anyway, this thing is big and heavy and has PLENTY for my 7 not full sized girls to all have access at once.

Alelle disagrees with me on this.

She literally screamed at her sisters. Not a cluck. Not a peck. A scream. They all paused, and she started eating again and they cautiously resumed with a little buffer space from her.

This meant that poor Piscia (lowest of the low in pecking order) got booted from front row feeding. Poor Piscia had to circle around the back, picking up scraps the others tossed aside.
She made the mistake of getting too close to Allele...and Allele let her know the displeasure it caused her by pecking Piscia.

Piscia relented immediately and ran to the opposite side of the treat, head down low so she wouldn't be noticed and ate some goodies in a hidden manner.

This also was not Allele approved, and she rushed at Piscia to shoo her away. Never mind the 5 other chickens she ignored to peck at Piscia.

This went on for 10 minutes. Allele was totally okay with everyone else eating, but Piscia? Nope! Not allowed!

I didn't interfere (no one hurt, enough food for everyone) , but I hate this part of having a flock. Especially when Piscia is my favorite.
You will not like me for this but I always interfere. My princess was always being pushed out and I was there clucking and flapping my wings in the middle. Then I found out why she was pushed out, she must weigh a stone, really she's the greediest little piglet for a chicken ever 🐖

Broody Update

For everyone who was excited to see Phyllis hatch (count me in this group), I have bad news. She gave up the nest.

I guess she decided it was not a much fun as she thought it would be. She has been off all day and it's 3 pm. Besides a fashion plate like Phyllis can't be weighed down with children.

I must admit, I'm kind of disappointed. I think she would would have cut a fabulous figure with chicks. Alas it is not to be.

She out again unencumbered by children.

See, I knew it should have been Sydney on that nest. :lau That girl has staying power!

They are all super adorable and will be very pretty when adults. I do have a soft spot for the little Marans. I like that her comb is still relatively tiny, some of my boys have came out of the egg with a much larger comb then the others. Also I see that while there is the typical large feet her legs are not thick tree trunks. I think it's a girl and can't wait to hear what her name turns out to be.
Pikachu. She has hidden talents. ;)

These little rascals have spent the morning stuffing themselves and throwing so much junk in their waterer that I've had to completely clean it twice today. But they are having a blast and are being exposed to the big chickens as they are enamored with them. Drummie and Henrietta want in with them so bad. Of course I know what they really want to get after is their chick feed.
