Patsy Update
It is smoking hot here today. I have thermometers inside and outside the coop so i can monitor temperature and humidity differences, mostly for in winter. Everyone leaves the coop right away in the summer.
When I let everyone out to free range this morning, Miss Patsy did not come out. She was laying next to the food dish in the coop. Frankly my first thoughts were maybe we have come to the end. I decided to leave her be. When I checked the thermometers it was 11 degrees cooler in the coop than outside. The coop is under our birch tree and in the morning it is shaded but by early afternoon the sun beats on it. It gets very hot in there. I was not going to leave her in there to bake. Mid morning I went out and opened 1 side of the coop to facilitate the air moving through and she was standing in the middle of the coop looking at me wondering why I was opening things up.
I went out to physically remove her from the coop at lunch time and she was not there. She was under the magnolia tree in a dirt hole with everyone else. She is a pretty smart old girl. She's not done living yet.
