Oh, honey, don’t worry just yet. A few questions… have you been giving more treats than normal, which dilutes their layer feed? Is oyster shell available? Is there any reason for stress, like weather or big changes around her?

If she were mine, I’d dose calcium for a couple days just to be safe. You can put a calcium citrate plus D3 tablet if you have them, right into her bait, or you could crush up whatever calcium you have with the mortar and pesto, or between two spoons, and hide it in a little treat. I usually use baby for bird formula for the treat, but a little wet cat food or something else would work, too. Or a little scrambled egg. Just pull her aside so her flockmates don’t try to steal it from her.

And, sorry, I know you didn’t ask for help. I couldn’t help myself.
Thank you, I appreciate your input. The treats I give are shredded collard greens, kale, and sometimes peas. Sometimes some dry oatmeal.
I always have a big bowl of oyster shell out for them and they do eat it. I recently switched from a 20% protein all-flock type food to a layer feed.
They used to be in their pen during the day ( it’s a nice big pen) but in February we started letting them free range during the day.
That is when I noticed a slight change in the color (lighter) and thickness (they’re thinner) of their egg shells. They also sometimes have a rougher finish on the shell (slightly sandpaper-y). I should mention that we live outside of Myrtle Beach and our soil is clay and sand!
I make them eat breakfast (layer feed) before they are allowed out to play, just to make sure they are getting it. They do eat a lot of it in the course of the day. They go back to the feeder to snack between roaming.
I may take your advice on the calcium citrate, it might make a difference.

Oh no Bob! I’m so sorry to hear this. No I think you were doing the right thing and waiting and not taking them straight run. You only want to keep hens right now, right?

Hugs to you, friend.
Yes, I cannot have boys here. I'm sure I could have rehomed a rooster though. Who wouldn't want one, right?
