That is very....generous of you to say so. 😅
I always think it is a rather unlovely, awkward stage. Especially when they were so cute just a few weeks before! 🤣
Two weeks old is probably my favorite age. They're not too fragile to hold, have fluffy chick faces, ready to flap around, and have wings to hint at their adult feathers.

Only a half black chicken
It appears someone is getting a white head and chest.

5 out of 7 have hatched. 1 more has externally pipped and the final one is rocking and rolling. I've gotten 2 blues and 3 blacks. Tried to give Henrietta a chick early and luckily avoided a disaster. Too much time has passed and there is no hope of her accepting them. She wanted to kill the chick. Once everyone is done hatching I'll move them to the brooder.

I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I knew once I started doing this there would be no going back. So I am now diving in and I hope you all enjoy coming along for the ride.

First of all let me tell you how we view our flock as that will help you to understand why we treat them like we do.

Our birds are our pets and we treat them as such. We do not care if someone is not laying eggs. They are welcome to stay at Fluffy Butt Acres until they pass naturally. (Now don't go telling them that! I would hate for word to get out) We do thoroughly enjoy the fresh eggs.

I plan to tell stories from the past as well as from today. I hope you all enjoy and will share stories of your flocks as well.
Omg I love the name! I had started calling my girls fluffy butts as they started getting older and their back end started puffing out. lol Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

Your coop is beautiful. I love the color and freaking awesome window!

These don't belong there...

I think I might name the Marans girl BB, I catch myself calling her baby Bean because they look alike, so I think that just might suit.

I still have no idea what the other 2 girls are. They still need names too.
A little life-hack if those are inaccessible - nail an empty cat food can to a piece of wood (like a 1x2 or even a dowel) and it becomes like a long handled ladle you can fish the eggs out with.
And yes, I did learn that from experience when the Princesses were laying under the vestibule floor!

I have to be honest here. My favorite ages are 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 2 years and all days in between. I don’t have experience past two and a half years but my Princesses continue to both delight me and drive me nuts with worry pretty much every day!

My favorite age for chickens, is six years old (and still willing to jump into my lap without wanting treats) that’s true proven love ❤️!
