Just look @ her feet, Alex, just look @ her feet!I don’t wanna know, how you know that!![]()
I personally think that is wise, Bob.Desperate to get to that Nesting Box. It is that much better.
I could not let Phyllis go any longer. She was not coming off of the nest at all. I find it scary right now so I will intervene.
Yep. Pretty much all of mine have started out with smaller eggs.Do new hens start out laying smaller eggs than regular "medium, or large "? Does ANYBODY know the answer? My five new BR's are laying now (but are the same size as my five year old "Rocks-Ann" but their eggs are small?![]()
Interesting flockservations. My Bagheera acted a bit like an auntie, too. I love that. If Phyllis takes on chicks, I agree she will fiercely protect them. When I got chicks for Cashew, who is all fluff and normally only around five pounds, had dropped weight and gotten weak. One day, Buttercup, who weighs about eight pounds, pecked at a chick. Well, holy mother hen! Cashew sprang into action so fast my head spun! She chest pumped Buttercup several times and eventually Buttercup backed down. It was impressive! Buttercup never so much as looked at a chick after that. If she ventured anywhere near the chicks, Cashew was in full offensive mode. Cashew still outranks Buttercup to this day.Flockservations
Since I was out supervising Phyllis' release today, I got a chance to observe their interactions.
- I watched Sansa, Sydney, and Phyllis all grooming together peacefully for a while today and I thought, that is what I hoped for when I added the three of them. Of course after a few minutes both Sydney and Sansa decided that Phyllis needed pecked, I guess because she is broody, or maybe just because she is Phyllis. Either way the illusion quickly shattered.
- Sansa and Sydney were both the most interested in punishing Phyllis. At different times either one or both were actually stalking Phyllis.
- I think Aurora has a soft spot for Mums. I remember her actually being sweet to Sydney and protective of her chicks. I saw the same thing today. Her and Phyllis shared some meal worms with no moves to peck or run Phyllis off as she normally would. They groomed together and Aurora never made any move to chase or peck her.
- The obsession with nest box #1 is real. I had to run off Sydney, Sansa, and Aurora. Aurora actually snuck past me twice and into box 1 where she laid her egg very quickly the second time. It was also Aurora who came running when I moved Phyllis to the right side of the wire in the coop and she squawking loudly making the distress call.
Did you see my post awhile back to Kris about thus? After you copy the share code, manually alter it so it looks like a regular youtube share code. What a good girl
And Hattiethat gave me a laugh.
what was your truck for uploading the videos so they have thumbnails and aren’t shorts again?
I wonder just how long I can procrastinate today without having to cut down those several trees that need falling. (Maybe if I wait long enough, they will drop themselves down and cut themselves into logs)![]()

If you can get the trees to fall down, cut themselves into logs then stack themselves you'll really be on to something!Glad it is cooler for you. I have been using the ‘maybe it will fall down’ strategy for years. I haven’t yet got the trees to cut themselves into logs on the way down however.![]()
Another one for the recipe book!My girls are cooking down with frozen cherries layers mash and yogurt.
