I was just thinking no footprints and if the birds retaliated then they could have been a few casualties. But I am not qualified enough too know on this subject because of where I live.

Dogs can't get over the fence here, an alsatian or similar dog could could but luckily the ones near my home are are contained.
Too much grass or ground too hard for prints. 13 week old pullets aren't going to retaliate anyway. they're just going to run for cover. Not sure if Rusty would have retaliated on aerial attacks either. His spurs, while pointy, were only 3/4 on an inch long. He was only 13 months, same as Mama was. I have heard of a pair of Jersey giant roosters killing an attacking red tailed hawk, but I don't know the details.

Highly unlikely. Too many bodies. Most aerial attacks involve 1 target and LOTS of blood, even if unsuccessful. if successful, either body is carried off, or eaten then and there. Neither of those happened.
It's awful this happened and daunting not knowing :(

I hope answers can be found but failing this some sort of camera set up put into place. I don't use ebay but maybe a more of a reasonable price could be found there.

The only other suggestions I can think of is a dog or couple of cats. I only have one cat but thinking of finding another after RC explaining how they can become a team. My cat is super protective of my girls but I am afraid he couldn't battle with a dog

I haven't found ANY marked as cold hardy below about -5F. My BIL has some of the $200+ ones, but that certainly breaks the bank, not sure what brand, and in browsing Amazon, needed to take a frustration break. I do have a line on some fencing, free if I haul (score!), bit over an hour from here. By Montana standards, that's just next door and doable. The guy with the fencing is digging out more chicken wire tonight, so thinking go get this weekend.

That's great ;) . Someone suggested to me a while ago too add some of the prickly plastic strips on top of my fence. After reading your dilemma I may get hold of some soon.

Good luck, I'll be looking for your update :hugs

You are most fortunate. I have a perimeter fence that keeps mine safe from wandering dogs.

I need to try that! 😋
All this coffee talk, has made me want my afternoon cup of Coco, so here she is: B456CA56-8934-4B48-A4CA-BE09B1B44B74.jpeg
