Here are some pics of my coop and run.. I have posted these before but thought to share again.. it has been wonderful and very safe.. nothing can or has gotten in... its extremely easy to clean the poop out from under roosts.. I have sand in there and just scoop the poop out every morning... some pics are of the first coop/run.. 12x12... then the add on.. another 12x12.. the apron is around the entire coop/run.. also, the roosting area is open to the run so they put themselves to bed and are free to come out in the morning on their own.. I also have a yard attached that I do let them in and out of... but their run is large enough if they have to stay in... food and water are always out in the run... this set up is extremely easy for me which is why I built it this way.. Thanks for all the detailed pictures! It’s lovely!

My list is more-or-less the same and being built into the Chicken Palace. On my list I had easy access to feeders that they couldn't perch on and a chicken jail inside the coop and a people-only storage area.

I don't think you will give up counting beaks. Even though the Chicken Palace is not finished I have moved from really not very safe to much safer as they are camping in the Chicken Palace run. Honestly I think I could leave the coop door open in the current situation. But I still like to go out and see them all roosted safely. So I figure I will always be counting beaks.
My run is pretty secure (1/2-inch hardware cloth walls, top and skirt), but I will never skip doing a headcount. :)

Where Did Lilly get into White Paint?

I was out with the three ladies yesterday while they were free ranging and I noticed that Lilly had white spots on her. They kind of looked like paint.

If was damp and drizzly at times yesterday so I thought maybe she had rubbed up against some of the white furniture in the backyard and some paint had rubbed off. I wish that had been then case.

I noticed that she was spending a lot of time standing around in front of the run door all day. I thought it was odd behavior but didn't think much of it until I noticed what was hanging over her.

That is a suet bird feeder for song birds. Lilly was standing under it eating what the song birds dropped all day. Smart on her part.

Then I realized what else song birds drop and I knew what was all over Lilly.

It wasn't white paint!
:sick

The suet feeder has been moved.

I like the idea of keeping roosting and nesting separate.
