Raw egg?

It's tempered with the hot milk/sugar, then heated more until it starts to thicken (my recipe anyway). Some recipes are raw egg, cream, spices and alcohol. Wouldnt touch those if you paid me to.

Thinking on long necks

These little ones seem to have much longer necks than Phyllis has ever displayed. You all saw the video.

I have developed a working theory on these necks. These Candy Corn Polish have barring to their feathers. They also have autosexing of chicks along with the barring gene. Perhaps that gene set also includes the gene for long necks as well. Checked out this barred hen with an enormous neck. Remember this photo?

I'm now picturing a mop top on that neck. Maybe something like this?

I tried to get mugshots, but stupidly didn’t do it until it had cooled off and they perked up.

Here’s Sunny. She always has stuff all over her cheeks:

Say hello to a blurry Roxy. I never noticed this before, but her top beak looks a little shorter than the bottom, doesn’t it?

Her mug is buried, but here is Minnie’s first molt. It just started, and it’s hitting hard. Lots of feather piles around the yard.

Today I ran around the yard with my meat thermometer like I normally do on hot days. 91°F in the shade, 102° in the sun, and 113° in the sun an inch off the ground. The girls parked themselves in front of a misting fan a good portion of the day. Sorry, no photo of that.

So I have a dilemma. Ruby is swollen and slowing down. She is also breathing harder. Not all of the time, but some of the time. She open-beak breathed much of today, but it was hot. She still eats, drinks, preens and poops. Not sure she can dust bathe very well.

I will be out of town Friday late morning through Sunday afternoon. Do I have her euthanized before then? She’s not quite ready, but I don’t want her going into respiratory distress while I’m out if town.

I really wish she’d head into a natural molt, as that might shut her hormones down for a bit naturally.

I have some great pictures of Patsy. Her neck feathers could be seriously striking especially if they caught the sunlight in the right way. I stumbled across that one yesterday and thought why not use it for a tax payment.

Security Breach

We had a breach in security yesterday. Mrs BY Bob did not close the door all the way and Éowyn broke in. She went right to her favorite spot and lay down at first. .

Then she noticed something was moving in the big box.

Then she was removed and placed back outside the room. The chicks never noticed from what I could tell.

My little friends are now napping on top of the brooder occasionally. I need to devise a perch for them.
