If there is any way at all to avoid using an incubator do it.
There a long way to go before I could even think of egg hatching, it's the wrong time of year. As Bob said spring is about the best time.

I don't want to upset this set up here but my neighbour has told me that there is a charity seeking homes for rescue chickens. That's another thing I would love too do, even if it's only two, it would help a couple of creatures too have a bit of life.

The only problem is if amber gets jealous

Bopeep, what a sweet name.

Are there any sheep living locally? Maybe she could strike up a few friends with them. This could possibly sort the bullying out if she has bigger friends.

Just a thought 🤔
You still here? ! :lau No was supposed to be a barred rock roo. But she’s making me breakfast every morning! All I need is a few pigs 🐷 so I can have bacon and eggs!

Let’s check my bucket list:
1. Five beautiful homes across the United States. ✅
2. Very special friends around the world ✅
3. New California acquisitions done ✅
4. 12 healthy chickens so far ✅
5. My new horse Chaco done ✅
6. Still have my Cessna in perfect condition ✅
7. my heart is healthy now (according to my doctor) done ✅
8. I rebuilt the redwood deck on my property in the Sierra mountains ✅
And still kept up with my friends here on BYC (because I love you all!) ✅
That's a pretty full life. 👍

I will be really interested to see how you do this. I have heard of a system of integrating whereby you create some small holes that the chicks can fit through, but not the hens (a bolt hole of sorts). Apparently they can be integrated quite young, by 4-5 weeks old) using this system.
Then again, I totally understand why Phyllis wants to protect her spot in the pecking order, but seeing her reaction made me wonder if that system of early integration would work as well as advertised.
I am just thinking ahead to my first integration which is likely years away. I have a stable flock of ten 15 month olds currently, but I do like to have a plan in mind!
I promise to share everything I do. Perhaps you will get some ideas.

It's just one more of those myths that still gets posted with great authority and even greater ignorance.
I do love so knocking them down. 4 eggs this week from Phyllis. More than she has laid in a well in a long time. Goodbye myth!

That's my little Mythbuster! 😁
