They very much need to be in sight of each other and cuddle whenever they stop moving.Looks like Sylvia didn't want to be far from Legertha!

If you want to switch them to a pellet or crumbles, just do it slowly. Add maybe 25% crumbles to the mash and feed for a week or two and see how they do. If it goes fine, then the next week up the crumbles to 50%, for a week, etc. Also, gradually start giving them small amounts of treats (like scratch or meal worms...just a very small amount to start...to get them used to different things. Might have to put it on their feed so they know they can eat it the first few times you give them something new. They will get the idea...especially if you use a consistent phrase when you do it (like 'here girls' or 'here chicky chicky') and put it on the feed. Then after a bit, they will associate the phrase with treats/food, and come for it....and know it is something good! (too bad they don't have a 'YUM! emoticon! They advised I feed them mash because that's all they have eaten. No information was given on how long they should remain the case.

Yes I feel very guilty, stealing treats from my feathered friendsOkay, I confess. I gave the chooks a watermelon this afternoon, it was hot here, but it looked sooo good, I stole a slice for myself. (Don’t tell anyone)
I don't blame you.Okay, I confess. I gave the chooks a watermelon this afternoon, it was hot here, but it looked sooo good, I stole a slice for myself. (Don’t tell anyone)
No, that is called 'Sharing"Yes I feel very guilty, stealing treats from my feathered friends
It makes me angry, too,.It's all about feed to egg ratio. Once they slow down laying even a little, profitability falls. So they get rid of them and go with new. It breaks my heart to think of it.
Aren’t they fabulous? These berry photos are great!
