I am genuinely interested in the viscosity of the egg whites of older hens.

Can anyone comment?
Here is the 'line' I read recently:
As a hen ages, the whites (or albumen) in their eggs naturally gets thinner, and since it's more difficult for the shell to encase a watery substance, the shell can end up with bumps and ridges.

Just that one small statement in an article about eggs & their anomalies. Link to article. https://www.fresheggsdaily.blog/2016/02/why-does-my-egg-look-weird-eggshell.html

More scientific article that I just found:

Hope this helps :)

Gotcha! However, it sounds like they might actually get more viscous with older birds? Maybe @BY Bob can find that article.
Link to article was posted above.....the albumen gets THINNER with age. And they only looked at hens @ 30 wks and 60 wks; my understanding is that the viscosity continues to decline as hen ages. ([ believe I phrased it correctly this time. ]

You did! And that’s what I would have thought. I saw the article posted after my post. 🤣 I know; some people say “should have read ahead,” but I try to read the posts in chronological order and sometimes can’t help myself from commenting too early.

Huh. That's very interesting!

Mary's whites are getting thicker 🤔 these days she eats probiotics every day. Maybe that's why.
