Heat denatures protein, making it firm. In a pan or oven, by gas or electricity. Microwaves work on the water in foods, agitating it and that heats it up. That heat works on any protein. That's my understanding. Maybe the scientists here could weigh in?
Tax - Peanut had something good on there...

I have noticed a marked difference in what my Princesses are foraging for. I don’t really know what it is they are finding but they are favoring a different area in the long grass with completely different plants, and they are going more for things in the ground and less for the tips of leaves and grass seeds.
Yes it is all digging now. Not very much nibbling on greens. Hazel is going for worms and dirt dwellers, as far as I can tell. When she pulls something out, of course I can see it if it is long and floppy, that's a worm. But a small bug? Eaten before I can see anything.

That was my thinking too… the thought of building something was exciting but at the same time so many things could not work and it wasn’t going to be much bigger than the prefab I found anyway.
I think the only additions to the hens would be if I lost one, I would get 2 more to make 3 which the prefab would support for living in.
They only sleep and lay in the coop and our weather means they never have to be locked in there for any amount of time (no snow). If it rains they hang out underneath or in the plastic cubby that’s in their netted run atm. Or on our covered concrete on the doormat at the back door 😂
The netting fence makes a 12 foot run attached to the current prefab but most often they are out and about in the yard.

You all are probably tired of them now! Haha, i always call him my little misfit, he has a calico tounge (like black and yellow patterns! Just how a cats mouths can be like mix matched) with his black and yellow spotted feet and bright green unmatching feathers! Still a cutie though.
He’s gorgeous! :love

I'm thinking she's either a Lavender Maran or a lavender Orpington x Maran cross. Interestingly in my lavender Maran research I found out they introduced the lavender color through lavender orpingtons.
That would make the most sense. It is similar to both.

Seems completely reasonable then!
Given the number of birds, I'd say whatever is cheapest (both in your time and expense) bc they will both work nicely with your situation
