The grey hen. She is the only one of this breed. So far I haven't seen her in a fixed roosting group. She just seems to fit in where she can. She's apart from the others a lot when out foraging but doesn't seem to be at odds with any of the other hens. Henry doesn't pay her much attention. Not sure what that means atm.View attachment 2855468
She has a very orpington-like body shape. Her tail is different than Hattie's and feathers on the legs don't match at all.

The fluffy lower portion, tucked wing, comb and wattles, and body carriage are very similar.

Do you know what coured eggs she is laying? Looking @ that picture my best bet would be French Maran rather than Langshan. I will have another look once I'm up & on my computer but whatever she is, she's one very pretty girl.

I thought that too, Bob, but the tail & legs are wrong & I like RC's definition: definitely a chicken!🤣

I'm thinking she's either a Lavender Maran or a lavender Orpington x Maran cross. Interestingly in my lavender Maran research I found out they introduced the lavender color through lavender orpingtons.

It's very early here (the crabber is just leaving) & to prove the point on what a lousy observer I am, it's a frizzled bantam sharing with the wyandotte. 🙄 Honestly, I should wait till I'm awake to have these conversations.😅
I think maybe that is just one chicken and a pinecone.

She could be another part Marans. She doesn't have the same copper colour on her neck though and the feather shape and colour grey isn't quite the same as the grey Marans in the tribes. She's a rescue so not much chance of futher information.

The Lavenders would not have the traditional copper coloring. I pulled this off of the web to show them. The hens are pretty, but it's the Roosters that I am drawn to with the almost blonde hackle feathers. Of course I need another Rooster like I need a hole in my head.

Yep, the lavender on the red turns it a straw color. That's why Isabella is a duckwing with lavender. The black turns lavender the red turns straw. So I'd say if the shape looks marans, then she is lavender marans.

So Ruby is in my lap and I believe she is dying. It seems her digestive tract may have shut down. She ate and drank what I brought her when I got home from San Francisco, but she is drooling intermittently. I’m pretty sure she’ll be gone before Tuesday if not tonight. My poor, sweet, valiant little warrior.
:hugsmay her journey be as peaceful as possible. Sending you both light and love.
