I've stopped stressing over waking in the middle of the night. "2 sleeps" are mentioned in some literature pre-industrial revolution, and it's 1 thing I can do towards that. Eventually i hope to do more of that pattern, but paycheck necessity currently crimps it.
I am intrigued by '2 sleeps'. I like the idea!

Harvest, dry, then store the raisins for treats throughout the year.
I need to do that. My grapes go to waste. I don't like them - they are way, way too sweet and are a very old variety that you need to pick out to get a decent sized grape. Too much effort for something so icky!

Yeah, I’m not sure what’s going on. The tarps are up and maybe they like being in there? One thing that has come to mind lately is that their gate is very exposed. Maybe they feel vulnerable coming out there when theg can’t see what’s out there. I might get some clear vinyl and put it up for winter instead of the tarps. They also might like it if I put a little gate somewhere on the back side of the run that’s hidden by the walnut tree. But then I’d have two gates to keep track of.
I found that the wind would shred the clear stuff unless I ran a strip of duct tape then stapled through the tape to keep if fastened down. If I only fastened the edges, it was gone so fast it wasn't funny.

I like the idea of the back gate. Advice, only open 1 gate at a time.

After reading the article a friend shared with me (several years ago so no idea where it's got off to), a light came on. it would explain things like Midnight Mass, babies/toddlers persisting in 1 middle of the night feeding, the urge to check the house to make sure everything is kosher, add a log to the fire, check the animals. as long as your total amount of sleep is meeting your needs, it doesn't really matter if it's "interrupted" as long as it's better quality than a series of 20 min naps. I don't think I've slept entirely through the night more than a handful of times since. I'm also relaxed about it (stress does a number on your sleep too).Based upon the article, it wasn't uncommon for people to leave the house for a couple of hours, visit with the neighbors, have a bite to eat, read for a while (prayer/meditation included) before going back to bed for 2nd sleep.

You're in an area with minimal outside lights (street lights and such). Your body is likely trying to fall into those rhythms anyway.

Make wine if you don't like raisins. There's enough info available for home brew/micro brewing that supplies are available online. Around here, those supplies are frequently available in organic gardening shops.

I have to go back and find the original post. My daughter had narcolepsy (sleep disorder) and this is very intriguing!

Ah, here it is. I might search for the literature.
