Out of the Box Thinking

Here is the video of me coaching Sylvie out of the nest box. I had no food with me, just my voice to comfort her.

I am heading to examine Legertha's body. I will let you all know what I find if anything.
This made me cry. I’m so sorry, Bob. I can’t even inagine your pain. However, I have a good feeling Sylvie is going to be OK with Lilly and Phyllis to help look after her.

Some Good News

It appears that Sylvie is through the shock phase. I am outside with her and she is enjoying herself out in the yard.

This is lovely to see 🥰
I hope you get some answers with the necropsy, it’s all a bit puzzling. Was it @Shadrach that said about hawks (maybe the goshawk) that the first hit is very hard and may do internal but not external damage?
Her wing feathers remind me of Belle’s. The way the black is on the brown is almost like it’s spray painted on, there’s no definite start/end of colour.

They most definitely do. Mine are out and about today but there is no playfulness in them.
Storm went from very bold (with Mama protecting her) to very timid, skittish, and shy. As she grew, the boldness started returning. As the youngest in the tribe, she's bottom rank. She's assertive, daring, speedy...she darts into the middle for something she wants. Mostly stays on the edges so she can dodge away. Gives ground even to Thing, yet doesn't take the discipline/beatings Thing does (she's too quick). She is following Twirp's example of exploring while keeping to sheltered areas, watching the rest for alerts, and moving quickly through open areas.

These temperatures are not unexpected for us in November, December, January and February. I don't really mind so much on the days that I don't have to start my car, but it isn't great for the chickens. I won't be letting them outside today.

Luckily I had a pot of tender grass that I grew for them so that has kept them occupied. I also gave them some dried grass that I collected this summer. I cut and dried it for just such a day. Next I will take them some fresh straw to scratch through. I am glad it is the weekend, so I have time to be a chicken enrichment planner! :)
They are lucky to have you :thumbsup
